 But if you're searching nationally, you can put any old postcode in.

I'm not overly bothered by this as my real name, DoB, home address etc are all a matter of public record now anyway, for anyone with ££1 to spare.

Only one problem; it's yellow. Only tw@ts buy yellow cars.

Really big punch-in-the-face kinda tw@ts.

That's another one that just seems *too* cheap - provided that is all genuine. I'd have put that between ££7-8k as a 3.8 5 speed. Best colour for those too...

 Bargain!

I figure something has just started to need work and they're hoping to flog it to someone less sharp - who will then get the bill for a few ££ from their local indy. No such thing as a cheap M5 - without (usually ruinous) reason.

Looks lovely though. Out of purely academic interest - which would you have?

E34 M5 3.8 six speed (LE or otherwise) in close to perfect condition - for around ££10k OR

E39 M5 face-lift inc Comms & toys etc for similar (as they haven't quite acquired the status that E34s have - but I believe good examples will in a year or two from now - to buyers wishing to pick up an M5 for a reasonable sum without the worries that a ££15k E60 would come with...).

If that e34 hasn't got some invoices proving suspension work by now, then the suspension will be the first thing that needs addressing, and all-in for 4 dampers will be ££3k - and that's before you decide that the SLS valve & pipe need replacing (££1000), ARBs & bushes (££500), thrust arms, wishbones and the rest of the suspension bushes (££1000).

Then you've got the worry that the engine will go pop 2 days after you've got the car back from the indy doing the suspension

I love them to bits, but I'll not buy another until I win the lottery - or until one of the two I know have been treated very well (i.e. preventative engine tear-down & rebuild every 80,000 miles, brake rebuild every 25000 miles, suspension overhaul every 25000 miles, etc.) become available for sale.

They were the last proper M5s after all (handbuilt etc) so running costs do reflect that - especially given the type of driving they tend to encourage in you :hehe: Which is why I would prefer an E39 (line built and normal struts & springs for suspension etc) M5. But E34s just look so much more special than the run of the mill E34s whereas the E39 wasn't markedly different to the rest of the range (imho) barring more power.

I'm imagining that E60 M5s will put E34 running costs well & truly in the shade by the time they reach 15-20 years old (if they even reach it in the first place ;)). All those driver modes and doubly complex suspension.

For anyone buying an E34 M5 - I'd always counsel them to immediately have ££2k for "preventive" maintenance on hand (irrespective of the purchase price of the car) and similar again for routine maintenace p/a.

Performance doesn't come cheap.

The finest use for ££10k I can find today

Rare as rocking-horse shit & mental as anything. Pretty eye-watering to maintain - but zero depreciation. Bargain too as the last few of these I've seen have all been around ££14-15k...

...if you like your BMWs with turbos of course. I don't as a rule but this does give me itchy chin, thankfully not that I have ££10k kicking around - yet :hehe:

I should have added - aside from the colour. Alpinas should ALL be Alpina Blue by law. With silver decals. Here endeth the lesson :hehe:

I'm guessing this won't do it for you either RL? Love the car - but in THAT colour - with THAT leather. Also PMSL at the use of "F1" gearbox in the ad - for a two tonne+ barge with a conventional autobox (albeit ones with a couple of tiny buttons). F1 + 7 Series =

Oh FFS OEJ. I've not heard the end of M5 this, M5 that from AF since we had the red beast a few weeks back. Please do not put more of them under his nose at this juncture :hehe:

Far better place to put ££10k IMHO.

That 7 is rather amusing.... as is the leather colour!

TBH, it's not so much the silliness I dislike as the cars - heresy though it may be, there is only one brief period of BMWs that I have any affectation for - the early 80s LHD M5 which my father imported, and the E39 5-series in general, oh and the Breadvan. All the rest can go hang as far as I'm concerned.

So mix Alpina with an E39.... then you have my interest! Has to be the B10 though, not the pointless B3.3 thingie.

Once business has gone well for a while and I have a bit of spare money to buy myself a car - it WILL be one of those ^^^ - that looks a perfect example. OR one of these. It really is Sophie's choice for me with those two cars. Both have their appeals.

Edit: RL - early '80s M5?. The first was the E28 in 1987 iirc - unless you mean an E12 M535i?
