What little car ?

What car?

What little car ?

Post by DI Burnside @ Mon Jul 12, 2010 10:24 pm

Her indoors wants something to replace the little Punto that has served her well over the past few years.

Currently she's got her eye on a Mazda 2, which I can barely tell apart from a 207, which she's not keen on, so you can see what I'm up against.

Throw some ideas my way folks.

I really like the Mito and 500 although haven't driven either.

I did have a Ka for a day and whilst the engine is gutless the overall package was actually pretty decent.

Fiesta, used to have one and it was a good giigle around town. Decent economy, bigish boot, and big enough back seat to get 3 adults across.

The 500 is the only 'retro' small car that looks even remotely like the original.

Ka - no. I will have to drive it now and then and I hate these.
Matrix - no. We're not old enough yet.
Fiesta - I don't think so, I'll throw it in and see how she reacts.
i20 - I think we had one in France last year (damn you shit memory). If it was one of those I was quite impressed. Might just be slightly too big though, similar to the Mazda3 and Civic which she likes but has already dismissed

Keep 'em coming :)

We've already got a cnutting Zafira (odd how Vauxhall leave the "cnutting" out all the time), I don't want another hateful piece of shit sat out the front !

Mini - too little.

I used to refer to the Omega as a Vauxhall Amoeba after one rather dense customer enquiry on one years back. :boxedin:

Citroen DS3? Much cooler than a Mini or an Abarth and despite what people say about Citroen I am on my second C4 after keeping the first one 3 years. Not had a single problem with either and they handle brilliantly, I much prefer my diesel to my last petrol though as the power is much more usable. The only reason I'm looking to get rid is that I now live ten mins drive from work so I don't need fuel economy and miss speed.

I might happen to know that swp's MiTo could be on the market... it's a great little car. I did a review here: http://www.chew-the-fat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=126&t=23645

You say a small hatch, but do you need one that can do motorways? Four seats? A biggish boot? Classy feel/image?

I quite fancy a Panda 100HP for some reason. But then (before the big shave) I was often accused of being James May*.

I'll throw the Mito in, ta.

I should have said in the OP.

Four seats
Four doors
As big a boot as possible for a little car, but that's a nicety and not a must have.

Motorway driving is minimal so not really a consideration.

Here we are again. Mrs B never did get a new car as she changed job and ended up with a lease car, but circumstances have changed and she'll almost certainly need her own car soon.

She had an Audi A3 which she thought was nice but I hated. She did have a Clio on order to replace it as she'd had it 3 years, but with her getting ill and being off long term they cancelled the order, now when she goes back it will likely be part-time and there will be considerably less driving so she won't qualify for a lease car, hence her own car will be needed.

Her requirements are that it must be "not very big" but have 5 doors and A/C, that's it. Budget will probably be up to about £8k but I'm just looking for opinions for now, as in actual experience of ownership.

Clio and Fiesta are probably the front runners at the minute, with maybe the Mazda 3.

What's good vfm ? What's a nice drive ?
