So Saab 93 convertible or BMW 325i Convertible

In the wildly expensive world of Portuguese cars I have been looking for months, most cars are worn to the point of exhaustion with 300k cars very common, so that being said have narrowed down to two possible choices:

Saab 93 convertible very low kms been garaged since previous owner died and pretty genuine if not spectacular, full history, UK owner and only a few issues though one of those is a rattle from the cat, 5k negotiable, can probably get the cost of a new cat off it

Or a BMW 325i convertible BUT automatic, it is in fabulous nick but 50% more expensive and non negotiable, also it's 250 miles away so I have to get a 3 hour train ride to even look at it. http://www.standvirtual.com/carros/anuncios/BMW/325/i-Cabriolet/P8910289/. Even lower miles and some extras (strut brace and windjammer). Don't actually mind the auto as it means the misses can drive it in an emergency.

What do you think, the car will be a potter about in the sunshine kind of thing and there are no roads around here that have any room for performance though the Portuguese certainly try

The 325i will be a much better drive than the Saab, but if you really will just be pottering about then the cheaper Saab is cheaper.

I sort of get the feeling that you would only be asking us if you really wanted some back up to buy the BMW though, so if that's the car you would really prefer and you can afford to pay the difference without having to wear cardboard shoes then go for the BMW. It's miserable to have to look at a car with regretful eyes.

I've somehow managed to get to over 50 without ever having driven or even been in a 325 but have heard good things, will stretch the budget for sure but doable in the end, agree about the regrets.

Having owned an E30 325i I'd get the BMW for the engine noise alone. BMW's M-series straight sixes are some of the sweetest engines ever made, and even better in a soft-top.
