Both Croatia and Denmark's goalkeepers did really well to save so many penalties.

Glad Croatia won, that foul with the guy clean through on goal in the last minute was criminal. Shouldn't they just award a goal in that instance? He was about 3 feet from the goal line with no one between him and the goal and when he gets chopped down Croatia got a penalty from 12 yards with a goalie standing in the way. The rules actively reward cheating in that instance.

People have missed from closer than that with an empty goal...

He didn't get chopped down, the defender made a genuine effort to get the ball hence he wasn't sent off and wasn't cheating.

He did try to get the ball true, he just did in by ninja kick through the attacker. He knew what he was doing, he was cute about it, he knew that if he got the ball all was fine, if he didnt the Croat was going down. I'd have done the same and it's allowed in the rules but still, it's shady.

You're right in many instances but not this one IMHO. He has to make an attempt at getting the ball irrespective of the odds of winning it, and it was a genuine attempt to get the ball. On the reply last night he damn near did it too.

That image is a bit misleading as he didn't go through the player, he swung his leg from the left and that image is obviously a split second later when the Croation player is falling to the left and his left leg has gone over the top of the Dane's leg.

That never happened, Jorgensen starts his tackle from the back and lunges directly at the ball with his left leg through Rebic's legs, he doesn't swing it around at all, he comes short of the ball, crunches Rebic's heel and takes him out. Tackles from behind should be a sending off and constitute serious foul play, he's also clearly shoving him in the back

My mistake, but he was very close to getting the ball either way.

I don't think tackles from behind automatically constitute serious foul play any more, "intent" is in a lot of the rules now and his intent was clearly to get the ball. The consequence of which was a foul and a penalty so the ref got it exactly right.

The rules have that double jeopardy thing in now so it's not a red unless in certain circumstance. I doubt it would have been a red outside of the area either.

Just seems a bit wrong to me, the rules are fairly iffy in football at times and open to a lot of interpretation. Like Scotland for instance seem to be forced by FIFA to have only shite footballers

Interesting question to all you football fans.
If England got there, how much would you be prepared to pay for a ticket to the WC Final?

One hundred pounds, then I'd sell it to to an England fan for a large profit.

Same. But then the question was directed to "football fans"
And I can't really include myself in that
Nor am I wrestling fan
Good dramatisation though

For just me I wouldn't bother, I'd rather watch it down the pub.

To take my youngest I'd go to a couple of thousand for both of us, I'd love to take him to a big final (WC, Champions League, etc.) somewhere abroad.

FFS ID. Living off past glories is our thing #1966

In 2018 you didn't qualify
In 2014 you got knocked out in group stage behind Costa Rica and Urguguay
In 2010 you got knocked out in group stage behind Paraguay, Slovakia and New Zealand

New Zealand ffs. At half time the referee was still explaining to the Kiwis that the ball was supposed to be round

Italy are a para-para team nowadays. Deal with it

You can always rely on Dirk to take every single one of my comments seriously, do some internet research, and factslam the shit out of a silly comment.

FFS DIRK! Stop it!

Have an Ovaltine and go and stroke a puppy/boyscout.

This is the World Cup equivalent of the season Leicester won the premier league.

Also how can Neymar have such a low pain threshold when he is covered in tattoos?

I find football unbelievably tedious.

But how can anyone think that VAR is a bad thing? It's been great in rugby union and it's bloody great in this competition.

I dare ANYONE to disagree. Go on, just 'ave a fcuking go if you think you're 'ard enough!

(Goodness. Football certainly heats the blood, doesn't it?)

Yes VAR works well, the argument against was that it would break up the flow of the game, but they only use it occasionally and the game is usually broken up at that point anyway because the players are arguing with the ref.
