RWC 2019

Odd-shaped balls.

RWC 2019

Not long now.

ABs probably favourites but they have certainly lost their air of invulnerability.

SA and England look impressive and capable of winning. Never write off Australia. Wales look like they haven’t yet peaked but they are short at 10. Ireland look like they peaked months too soon. France always overperform at the WC.

Exciting.

Mood in Ireland is the team are just coming good now. Time will tell on that of course.

Interesting, like Greg I would have said you had passed peak.

As you say, time will tell.

England have enormous potential (and I mean in both ways). But we are still weak in defence. I fear one of the top teams will find us out in that respect.

A week to go (give or take a couple of hours).

Thought I'd have a look at the odds
NZ 11/8
SA 9/2
England 5/1
Ireland 10/1
Wales 12/1
Aus 18/1
France 40/1
Arg 50/1
Scotland 80/1

Although I'd rank NZ as favourites, I wouldn't put them as favoured as 11/8. Aus look a good outside bet at 18/1.

I guess the first question is who goes home first out of Arg, Eng and SA from group C- definitely the toughest group.
Arg are getting better so it will be a good fight i think

I'd really like to see Argentina do well - but not at England's expense, obvs.

SO Aer Lingus went for it in their send off to the Ireland team. Redid the aircraft in a special livery

Shame that only took them to London where they had to change aircraft

I don’t get what’s gone wrong there?

It’s for a departure photo call really, isn’t it?

It is. Just seems a lot of trouble for such a short part of the overall travel. They may as well have repainted the coach to the airport

Just me?

I dunno...

I suppose I see it as just some decent sponsorship activation for Aer Lingus. They spend a couple of quid wrapping a plane and then get a photocall and all the associated collateral around the RWC and position themselves as patriotic supporters of the team. Good ROI for a marketing activity, I’d have thought!

Those are such “Home” odds. Bookies always give such shit odds for every England sports competitions. There’s no way they should be better than Wales or Ireland but they know they will get loads of punters no matter the odds so they don’t need to entice them in.

Football is the worst where they’re something like 4 or 5/1 every two years.

yeah,I know in general that is true, though looking at an Australian bookie the odds aren't that different (though in decimal)
NZ- 2.38
SA- 5
Eng - 5.5
Ire - 10

And I don't reckon 5 is-5.5 is that out of kilter for England's chances. They have some very strong forwards. NZ are a relatively young side and WC history shows that inexperienced sides don't tend to do so well.

I'm annoyed, if Scotland had kept Cotter I think we may well have had a shout of doing something here. Instead we have Townsend and we cant defend again but can occasionally throw up the odd amazing result, just like the shitty teams he was part of.

Still, hopefully we wont get any French refs this time if we do manage to get to a respectable round.

Only a few days now, some cracking matches on Saturday too.

Looking at the (long) weekend

Friday:
Japan vs Russia - have to favour Japan

Sat:
NZ vs SA - has to be NZ but should be a good game
Fra vs Arg - this one could be a decider as to who goes through. Any result possible but I think Arg will sneak it
Aus vs Fiji - Has to be Aus

Sun
Ire vs Scot. Sorry to the sweaties but I fear that will only go one way. I will cheer for Scot though
Italy vs Namibia - Can Namibia keep it below 50 points for any match? This is one of their best opportunities
Eng vs Tonga - COME ON ENGLAND

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/49733089: Rob Howley has been sent home from the Wales camp for betting infractions. That cannot fail to have some adverse effect on Wales.

I think NZ v SA will be quite finely balanced. Wouldn't be surprised to see an upset.

France v Argentina is definitely the one to study: the loser will come at us hard.

As long as Aus keep the ball away from Fiji's back line they should be fine.

Agree that Ireland should see off Scotland.

England need to avoid injuries against Tonga. Their (potential) five hard match streak doesn't start for a couple of games yet. Reckon EJ might keep some big guns on the bench and some other big guns in the stand for this one. A narrow win will be enough.

I'm not convinced the AB's are going to do it again.
Sorry I meant NZ, as I see there is a campaign that they are not to be called the All Blacks as it gives them an unfair psychological advantage.
Hopefully the Springboks and Wallabies hear that too
