It doesn't. It burns fat though.

I've got a stocky build OK.

69 kilos is not heavy, you wimp.

I'm not sure any particular exercise is better for losing weight than another. Just like doing situps doesn't necessarily mean you loose aft on your tummy vs say running around a lot.

The equation is simple - burn more energy in a day than you put in as food = your body will metabolise fat.
Put in more energy than you use = your body will store fat.

Training like I used to burns a shit load of calories. Running or cycling like some of you lightweights do burns shit loads of calories.

This all brings back memories of my glory years.
Training sessions in the two weeks before competing felt like actual car crashes. Fainting, smelling salts, vomiting... ah yes happy days.
Coming in under the weight by lots more than I had expected.

then a week off after a competition. The local eat all you like buffet places used to FEAR me.

I've actually been on the Ramadan diet* now for a couple of weeks and I've got used to it. Some hunger at midday but keep busy with work and I'm fine.

The kids and wife tend to look a bit scared at dinnertime though. I seem to be getting a bit caveman with food at that point.

I need to watch my fluid intake though.

Pathetic isn't he.

Either he's very very short and normal build.
Or he's some sort of emo skinny thing.

Not a real man either way.

If it's been superseded I'll happily see my post moved.

So I'm a bit tubby right now, to the point where I feel it's slowing me down at work and being a dad. Fat Jason Manford - Ha Ha ha ha ha ....
I'm 110 kg more or less right now. But I used to be 87/8 kg 10 years or so ago when I was training and competing properly, and before I had several herniated IV discs.
That's my excuse OK.

I cannot bear to weigh my food. It feels like I'm preparing to feed livestock rather than myself. I used to calorie count and periodically severely restrict my diet when I was training - and hated it.
And I like nice food, which is not a category with a preponderance of low calorie, fat free foodstuffs.

So my diet plan at the moment is simply to miss out breakfast and lunch and eat what I want for dinner. Clever eh ?
I also need to cut down on the booze - have you seen how many calories are in it !?

My target is to get back to 90 kg which would merely be overweight for my height on the old BMI charts*.

*When competing in the 90 kg class I was pretty lean, ran 5-10 miles a week (pretty casually), and could bench/squat/deadlift 110/180/200 kg - and according to the charts I was overweight. Ha !!

So this is now written down, and you can piss take to your heart's content.

First off, hahaha. You fat bastard!

I don't think skipping meals is a good idea. Sure you'll lose weight but when you are at the desired weight you'll simply go back to the trough 3 times a day and gorge yourself silly!

You don't need a diet my friend, you need to change the way you eat for good. Lifestyle change.

Avoid processed shit. Smaller portions. Take a mild interest in calories. Do some exercise?

Of course it does. You lift lighter weights more often (in simple terms). It also tones the muscles as well as making you fitter, so you won't be as 'fat' even if you are not losing as much weight.

It's all that 'fat-burning zone' malarkey isn't it, to do with pulse rates and stuff. Go at your exercise too hard and you'll metabolise carbs or summat in preference to fat.

Look it up, I forget the details (obv).

Why would he mean something different? They will even help you lose weight if you do the right exercises. And if one were for example, a massive fatty then you would lose weight as well as fat anyway, whilst building muscle.

We rarely eat processed stuff, we cook fresh almost every day.

Primarily I need to start bloody exercising may fat lazy arse.

Yesterday my wife came to pick me up from work with the kids, and I stood up only to nearly fall over - I had sat in that seat for something like 8.5 hours straight.
No lunch, no drinks, no toilet trip, no walking about at all. Just sat there bashing at the keyboard and shouting down the phone to minions. I'm that fcuking important do you hear !

Jesus, no wonder I'm slightly tubby for my height !

*I can probably guestimate the calorific value of pretty much any food - I spent years making weight categories and trying to slim down.
I honestly used to be slim and athletic before I fcuked my back apart.

Eating little and often can help stop cravings and binge eating.

Eating smaller portions more regularly with the correct proportions of carbs, proteins and fat will keep your blood sugar stable and help with fat burning due to the body being continually fed (sort of like saying you're increasing your metabolism at rest, but not technically correct)

You still need a calorie deficit to lose weight.

Carbohydrates are fuel, they get stored, they tell the body to increase insulin levels (fat and protein don't do this) insulin is responsible for body fat storage.

I went from 20%+ body fat to 13% by doing the Paleo diet. Yes I was exercising, but I was also eating more.

I cannot recommend going Paleo enough. If you are fairly inactive, carbs are your worst enemy.

Yes cutting out bread and pasta isn't easy, but worth it long term.

+ Move more.

Lifting weights will increase muscle size/mass more than running and therefore your resting metabolism will be higher. All the low body fat guys at the gym lift weights and walk, not run.

Also, the more you learn, the more you're inclined to use that.

If you're on twitter follow two friends of mine @stephenbox and @curtishigh those two are very knowledgeable. Again, the Ben Coomber podcast has been one of the few things i've looked forward to listening to, week after week, I usually listen on my commute.

Oh, and even from me losing 1 stone, it made a massive difference to how I felt and my achilles is more manageable (getting worse now i'm a bit heavier again)

I've realised I'm hugely fattist and all that, but everything feels much easier when you're strong and a healthy weight. Depending on how compliant our child is, I'm hoping to get stronger over the winter.

I'm fat because I have been eating too much and not exercising enough.

I am now trying to stop eating as much, and would like to do more exercise. The only taking one meal thing is new. Like last week new.

Teeks - I am pretty realistic about why my body shape is just so fantastic.
I know what I need to do to make it even more fantastic.

Eat one meal and skip others is the same as fasting. Your body panics because it doesn't know when you'll next feed it. So it stores it rather than metabolise it.

When you used to weight lift I bet your metabolism was on fire?

Little and often and filling is the way to lose weight. Ditch carbs (inc booze) and live off protein and fat and do exercise.

OK?
