ETA that could read that I’m amazed at your age or your face and that is NOT the case. I’m simply amazed at your healing progress given your age and with that >points at face<

Given. You needed a given.

Pre-op today, if they get my meds sorted (I need to come off the Warfarin but I need bridging) then next Tuesday I'll be having a lumbar discectomy.

All being well I'll be back to normal, well normal for me, in a few weeks and hopefully pain free.

Good news Dibs. Although, isn't normal for you just sitting in a waiting room somewhere, waiting to find out what the next thing wrong is?

Hope it goes okay Dibs. Do they just take the disc out or do they replace it with something?

Oops, Wednesday not Tuesday.

I think the plan is to shave bits off the disc until it takes the pressure off the nerve, not to take the whole disc out.

Well, it’s all systems go for next Friday. The consultant and senior nurse got everything sorted today.

Spookily I was chatting to a guy in the waiting room and he had the same surgery a few years ago and said the pain relief was instantaneous, and that’s the norm apparently.

Double-spooky, he had another appointment later that day that happened to be with my Neurosurgeon !

After playing a number of first person shooter games I now can't sweat, I believe because of an excess of adrenaline, what treatment can I do to overcome this?

Well this has thrown a spanner in the works: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-50431845

I've been bumped until next Tuesday now as there are critical patients that need neurosurgery.

Problem for me is I've already come off the Warfarin and don't have enough Daltaparin to bridge me for an longer than 3 days, plus they haven't told me what to do anyway. As much as I completely understand there are people in far more urgent need of treatment than me, I can't mess with my meds for too long or the results could be catastrophic. I'm giving them 24 hours to sort my meds out or I'm going back on the Warfarin and they'll have to take me off the list. I'm nearing the limit for breaching the target, and in hospitals breaching targets is worse than a patient death !

I can't actually tell them that though as neither the specialist nurse nor the consultant's secretary are answering their phones.

They rang home and spoke to Mrs B, telling her they'd spoken to me and explained everything. Well they haven't spoken to me, as evidenced by them ringing the fcuking home number to try and talk to me ffs.

Clown that sounds miserable, I'm really sorry to hear it. Do you expect you'll have a fight to get your tonsils removed? It sounds like it would save you and them a lot of illness / hassle if you did.

Do whatever you have to do to have them removed Clown. Removal is bad for a week or two but you won’t regret it, I can guarantee you that.

Best of luck, I know how awful you’re feeling right now.

Had mine done twenty years back, got so bad they were damaging my voice and was told the surgery could damage it further. Career or breathing. Wasn’t an easy choice.

Get it done. As soon as you come round drink full fat coke by the gallon.

66 major had them out last year. Much happier for it. The “but” ... post op after a few days she had to eat hard edged foods. Apparently it’s essential to remove the scabs over the wounds. Otherwise bad shit happens.

So Clown, it looks like in order to get back in the gym, first you have to drink gallons of cola and eat bucketfulls of Doritos...

Yup. I was told toast and crisps. And the aforementioned full fat coke as it dissolves clotted blood etc.

I’ve posted before that I was eating hard edged food and ended up being readmitted for a couple of days because I couldn’t even swallow water, so don’t go overboard.

Poor clown, that sounds shit. It’s not as easy as being pissed off with your tonsils on one occasion sadly, you’d need to demonstrate repeated infections. You can always go private of course and a quick look suggests <£3k which may or may not sound good value depending on your pain/finances. They’ll give you post surgery advice which includes a balanced diet of various textured food (moo fizzy drinks though, they’ll hurt and not benefit you!).

Ha, my consultant rocked up with a pack of coke and insisted I drink it!

ETA, was decades ago mind you, so maybe it’s one of those things that has changed since.

Had the op earlier today, think it went well but I’ve only had a blurry conversation with the surgeon in the recovery room so far. I think he said there was a big bit of disc pressing on the nerve and they’ve removed it.

I think the plan is to get me on my feet later then send me home in the morning.

Russell in the next bed won’t make it through the night though if he doesn’t stop fcuking moaning about everything.

You're probably incapable of moving, so you've got a problem. Normally I'd suggest dominating the room, PH-stylee, but I'm guessing your dom-options are somewhat limited.

Get well soon, and learn to love Russell.
