Clothing Wants and Purchases

Post by Piquet @ Thu Sep 11, 2014 12:25 pm

I recently bought this blazer from the Charles Tyrwhitt clearance. It's nice and slim fitting and I'm very happy with it.

And yesterday I ordered these suede Chelsea boots from ASOS for a frankly ridiculously low price of £33.75.

I've never had boots before and I only began to like Chelseas around a year ago. I am pushing my boundaries, like a fatty in a corset.

I'm after a navy blazer at the moment. I think I want something a little more unstructured than the CT, but that is nice - I like the patch pockets. I heart boots clean off the scale, and my current faves are choco-choco-chocolate! brown lace-up deserts, so I'm partial to your ASOSes. Spesh the everso-slightly-burnished toe.

e: I'd really like to get one of these -

but I can't bring myself to authorise airstrikes on a potential civilian target because I've already got it in sandstone.

I was looking for the blazer for ages, largely because I wanted something a wool one and not one full of polyester/rayon/viscose. I didn't like the patch pockets initially but I'm really happy with them now because they make it look more blazery and less suit jackety. I'm excited about the boots. I'm not sure if The Burnished Toe (my future dandy pub name) will be on all of them - I imagine the suede on each pair might be a bit different. I don't know really, I don't own much suede. Chocolate brown is a nice colour - I'd like to see your desert boots please!

I sometimes rock the sports coat/jeans. It's a good Autumn look so rather than lamenting the arrival of turning leaves I am happy to dust off the blazer in the coming weeks.

Mine is grey tweed and sort of looks like this without the rolled up jeans.

Mine is very like that too, teeks.

I've got a grey one too but it's a linen blend and I keep it deliberately a bit crumpled so I don't look like I'm off to the yacht club (especially when I'm off to the yacht club!!) in it.

I'm wearing it today, with jeans, and suede desi boots.

I like.
What do you actually call one of those?
Its not a blazer, I refute that it is a sports coat, as TKF claims. So what would I search if I wanted to plot coordinates for a small sea-based invasion in amphibious vehicles?

If you mean the grey one, a tweed jacket. Or 'odd jacket'. In the US definitely sports coat.

Piquet is definitely blazered up in my eyes, though purists may cite the lack of brass buttons and single breasted nature. They'd be cnuts though.

Mine is green and a shooting jacket. I also have more formal blazers.

I agree with all of this. The patch pockets add to mine being a blazer, as do the buttons not being the same colour as the rest of the jacket as you would see on a suit. I always thought sports coat was just a generic US term for any jacket that wasn't part of a suit, although as it derives from shooting (I think) then it probably technically means a tweed jacket, maybe even with extra structure in the should for a shotgun butt.

Laugh

I actually cringed calling it a sports coat and that's why I called it a blazer later in the post. I hate both terms and I genuinely nearly didn't post it at all because I couldn't think of a name for it that's not awful!

I just got these for literally no reason other than I was buying my son a new football and I saw them there:

I wasn't looking for them and didn't especially need or want more canvas trainers, but I liked them and so I carpet bombed the entire insurgent zone with an incendiary payload.

I can't consider buying a blazer due to the awful things we had to wear at school.

As an aside, Piquet; do you have a neatly trimmed beard?

Ooh, ooh! I bought my blue blazer that I was after!! An All Saints Ascent blazer, like this:

As far as Piquet's beard, I hope he realises we're now officially past Peak Beard?

I've got a nice Paul Smith blazer in a sort of light brown/grey colour with a herringbone effect. I heart it but don't wear that often as it feels a bit smart for most things. Might wear it more this autumn as I'm older now.

Me too. I think I've just decided I want to wear blazers for things because I'll be fifty soon enough and there you go. But I have to wear these casualled-up blazers because I'd feel like a wretched cnut mini-my-dad in a double-breasted, brass-buttoned yacht club effort.

I've heard them referred to as 'hacking jackets'. Something horsey I suspect.

Anyway I have one from Bladen and I look fcuking brilliant in it.

I was looking at jackets like that the weekend we were in London, MrsHGL rolleyes'd me and said first you are trying to buy a Jaguar and now this? She wandered off muttering something about me having become my father. So I've decided I'm going to get a jacket just to piss her off now and wear it at every opportunity.

I've ordered a couple of bits from HE Mango, which I'll tell you about when they arrive - but in the meantime, checking the tracking info, I'm pretty surprised to find that my parcel is coming from Barcelona via Brussels. With free delivery. For a jumper. !

When I go hacking, I'm on a horse; does that help TA? I don't have a specific jacket that I wear though, am I missing out?
