Exactly what I couldn't understand. I did actually head to Barbour first, stop off at Black Friday sales in quite a few places and then got that one after being amazed it was actually cotton and actually waxed. I can only imagine it is going to kill me somehow.

£20 for that is a proper bargain if it doesn't immediately fall apart or leak like a sieve.

I feel like a fool for paying £80 (also in a garden centre oddly enough) for one of these.

So it arrived and is a proper waxed jacket and exactly as described, though a bit darker than the photos (though the colour variance was described). Once is smells of Colin and guns I am confident that Zara Royal person will be sliding off her dripping seat as I enter the room.

I haven't worn it in anger but it seems like a ridiculous bargain for the price.

I don't know how warm my cheapo is but the quilted one is only £40. My warmest jacket is definitely my down* parka though.

Here we have an astounding amount of attractive blonde post girls, the chap taking them on must be an impressive perv. Anyway, they still always wear shorts.

The postman at our office is still in shorts but he came in the other day in shorts, massive coat, thick gloves and and woolly hat. He looked such a bellend but it's "his thing" so dumbly plods on with it.

I've had some thermals from this place and they're excellent quality. Not just quality for the money but the best I've tried vs HH, Icebreaker etc. https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/merin ... ark%20grey

No idea what the jackets are like but the price is pretty much risk free.

I've got their Talus base layers, long sleeved top and long bottoms - they're ace. I wear them under my cycling gear. Half the price of the merino ones, but still excellent for what's essentially free.

My 5 year search for a warm coat ended last month.
I didn't post about it because I felt oddly ashamed of my purchase but it is won me over so much that I feel justified in buying it.
On the face of it, it looks very dull and it is North Face and is called a 'Himalaya' which makes it instantly a bit council.
But, I was won over by the description that it is the warmest coat they had ever made and a string of reviews from people saying "Do not buy this coat for normal use. It is too warm and virtually useless in an normal conditions as a result"
Anyway this is it:
Image

Looks quite ordinary there but it is fcuking massive. Like wearing a quilt and it is perfectly insulated. A couple of times in Iceland in sub-zero temperatures with high winds I felt completely neutral where everyone else in some pretty heavy duty gear was freezing to death. It is absolutely ridiculous but I love it because I am now never cold, and contrary to the scare mongers it does not get too hot (for me at least).
Anyway, even I will probably relegate it to my wardrobe by mid-feb I am delighted that every year forever I can get it out again without ever crying about being cold.

It looks positively polar and I'd definitely roast in it. Glad you've finally closed the circle though.

Hang on a second.
Firstly, it was £400. And a bit.
Secondly, whilst I realise it isn't much to look at - I definitely feel I am paying for stuff rather than aesthetics or gimmick. It is fcuking awesome for the function it was bought. And massive. And full to the brim of r the best quality down you can get. I am afraid I have to reluctantly verdict that it is good value.

Now that TT has snapped it's up to the rest of us to find a BETTER coat for £400.
Hopefully this will mend his head. or something.

After an extensive search I am confident that you wont be able to.
I am sure you might find a better looking coat, or a cooler one, but not a warmer one. The sole criteria was that I would never be cold again.
You will definitely not find a coat that fits this criteria for less than that.
Only viable alternatives were Canada Goose, Fjalraven and another that I have forgotten and they were £800+ for similar levels of warmth.

I have just bought 5 litres of petrol.
I have set fire to a tramp.
He said it was warmer than your jacket.

I'm on your side TT. I think your 'not the best you could have' coat is fine for £500.
