Nice choice Doctor. My personal preference still favours the standard International (like mine!) because the changed details on the Niet look to my eyes a bit like small changes for the sake of changing something. Either way it's still good, and weirdly doing up the belt makes these jackets feel much warmer too.

I tried the standard International and went for this one because of the extra warmth and, I think, better designed (leather) collar. The buttons on the pockets have been changed to one per pocket which I find more practical & quicker..... when I'm on the Norton and trying to get a pork pie out of the slanted document pocket to get the dog treats out.

When I saw it I wondered what kind of person would buy/wear something like that, outside of 1970s film Fargo and now I know.

Yes, but in green?

I have this horrible vision of it being teamed with either a blue or black coat.

Hooray! It's October again, time for coat shit!

Now the actual mercury is a-tumblin', what are you wearing?

I broke out my Barbour Fog waxed parka this week (last night) for the first time this a/w season. I only went to the OneStop for beer, but nevertheless. I love it when it's cold enough for coats, because I well love coats!

Hmmm, I broke out my Arcteryx belay jacket from it's hiding this week and I am torn.
It is simply not as warm as I want it to be and is designed (and sized) to have layers worn under it.
On the other hand, I love it.
But its not warm enough on its own.
WHat the hell do I do?
My Montane Ice Guide is by far the best coat I have owned ever, but it has lemon yellow lining (including hood lining) so it's just a shame.

I cant help feeling that the only option left available to me is a Canada Goose. Help!

Why not wear a lightweight dark hoody under your Montane, and put the hood of the hoody inside the hood of the coat? Thus lining the lemon tint with something subtler and hiding your shame. Easy!

All coats should be back from now on I've decided, except my proper parka with the fur hood which is yellow, obv. But that's allowed because parka. All others black. Agreed?

Oh how perfectly timed! Yesterday I had to travel to central London super early and it was tits cold. So I broke out my Vivienne Westwood three quarter wool coat. I looked pretty fcuking perfect in every way. Actually.

Sadly it's well smart and as I'm mostly a jeans & t-shirt kinda guy I don't get to wear it very often.

Isn't it Collezione for big London meetings?

I'm annoyed that the weather has seemingly skipped Autumn and jumped straight into tits cold so my Gaastra coat, bought specifically for Autumn, isn't warm enough. Bloody Nora!

I wore a coat on less than five occasions this winter, at least twice it was unnecessary but a fashion statement.

Agreed on black.
My montane is too warm with a hoody and it is quite close fitting so it becomes tight. Im doing that at the moment with my Arcteryx and I resent paying so much money on a coat when you need other clothes to provide warmth.

Any look at this fcuking cnut. It was him that made me think this coat would be perfect.
http://scottishmountaineer.com/arcteryx-solo-hoody-review/
the Solo is the big gun to keep for when the going gets crappy

Oh, it's your big gun is it? Big. Gun.

COmbined with this cnut
http://www.thealpinestart.com/2014/01/f ... lay-parka/

The solo has become my do-it-all insulated jacket from 0 to -20 degrees.

Oh, has it really. Well how comes I am fcuking cold in it at 10 degrees then you fcuking shit? Minus fcuking twenty indeed you fat self-heating cnut. Also- 0 degrees is your maximum is it? What happens above 0? Ill tell you what happens - nothing. Tit all. I could easily wear this coat in the middle of summer. Wanker

Isn't that the definition and purpose of a belay jacket though?

I don't fcuking know.
Probably. Maybe.
But then those idiots have no excuse to go on about how warm it is, because what they actually means is "The clothes I wear under it are really warm". The properties and the price of the jacket become irrelevant.
I love it yet hate it so much.

I was at -20 earlier this year (-19, allow it) and I was basically wearing everything I own plus the insulated onesie provided. Him saying belay is his go to jacket for that kind of temperature is daft. It's like saying his string vest is his go to clothing for those temps.

My understanding of a belay is it's like a fleece with less bulk to make it easier to pack into a bag.

That describes it fairly accurately I think. Basically it is the worlds most expensive kagoul which I thought I already owned in a different format.

Massive cold babies.

I bought a Didriksons parka last winter for serious dog work in winter and it's the very tits. It's totally waterproof, non breathable and hotter than the sun. I wore it in a blizzard last Christmas and couldn't manage more than a t shirt under it.

I keep seeing those on sale in Go Outdoors and they do indeed look the tits, although I have an in-built scepticism of any product that cannot be found anywhere for full price.
If it is any consolation, your review means something.

I've just had a look at those so called Didriksons. There's something not right about them. I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

wait.... Pikey.

Yes, that's it. They look a bit pikey.

I'm saying they're pikey.

Mine is this one:

It's not in the least bit pikey though. Bodhi's judgement has been all over the place since that thing. I heard the board are going to drop him any day. Poor sod, but not really up to it, it must be said.

You want a decent hat for cold weather?

There's only one choice.

One of these:

Made with real bits of real animal.

Used to wear mine when I had a convertible. Got lots of jealous looks, I can tell you.

The cat is quite an admirer of it too.

I've posted mine before which is doubtless better than yours - hand made by a Finnish furrier. Reindeer leather and silver fox fur.
