I've got the UBs on again at the moment, so I thought I'd update some pics.

I've had them now since the beginning of July last year, with the amount they've been worn increasing as they go along - as they've become more and more comfortable.

So that's ten months now, and they haven't yet had a soak. Or a wash.

By I think I can see some fades happening anyway.

Good fades.

Mine are >checks back through thread< 2yrs old and haven’t faded anything like that. Some feint lines but otherwise they’d be called Smart Jeans.

Are those darker patches on them just dirt and grime?
I'm just grimacing slightly looking at those.

The dark bits are the original colour of the denim. I think Datho has upped the contrast a bit to highlight the fades more so they’re darker on screen than irl.

Right, I've been wearing black jeans for the last few weeks. Black twill jeans, so solid black black, rather than that sixth-form grey-ey black from the nineties. I really like them, and they let me wear all sorts of things that are suddenly elevated to slightly-more smartness because my jeans aren't blue denim. Hype and fan!

What shoes do you pair them with?

Shoes often let black denim down.

A range of things. I have some beige suede desert boots, some tan leather brogues and some battered old tan work boots. I tend not to wear black shoes or boots with them (although I've got some (again battered old) black military-type boots I could wear in a pinch). Certainly never trainers.

What jeans should I buy, and what size should I buy to ensure I end up with a pair which will fit me at 34"?

Buy a pair of 28" stretch jeans for that painted on look, it's all the fashion at the moment.

I've bought some new black jeans. They are oilskin waxed jeans and they look like this (kind of) -

I'm hoping the waxed finish is going to patinate pdq and leave them looking like barn-find jeans, but we'll see. That picture makes them look worryingly bootcut though, so hopefully they just aren't.

Something about the hips/thighs on those loooks quite ladylike! I like the idea of the oilskin though. Interested.

I know, the picture is iffy. But they're a high waist because motorcycle.

12oz twill cotton with Covec (think alt-brand Kevlar) lining and armour pockets.

Won't you wear boots when riding your MC though or slippers? Also you don't want to tuck your trousers into your boots because of rain running down your legs.

An email came through this afternoon with a 50% discount code for Soso. So (so) I’ve ordered a pair of custom made jeans.

I got that email as well. I'm well interested to see what you end up with.

In the denim meantime, I have picked up some 12oz raw kevlar lined "anti-fit" slims for motorcycling, and some 13oz black x black selvedge - which are fantastic.

I have also now washed my 21oz Unbrandeds once, and they are looking flippin amazing and fit just so perfectly.

I went onto the Soso website earlier and in the chat window I asked them which of their fits were closest to my UB201 because there absurdly comfortable and I heart the cut.

Jonas (one of the actual founders) was the person replying and he told me he knows them well and to get Tapered Jeremy. Then I went and bespoken the shit out of them.

Looking back through this thread my UB are 3yrs old now. Cor.

Well. I've just ordered a Type II jacket in rigid raw Kaihara selvedge.

Judging by the weather and what I've been wearing recently, I expect to pretty much live in it from now on unless I'm on my motorcycle.

Fwiw, these are one of my pairs of riding jeans. They're Kevlar-lined as you would expect, but the denim itself was allegedly rigid raw (although not selvedge, or Japanese shuttle artisanal). Sadly I had to wash them too soon because they were caked with flies, but they're progressing alright.

I've got another pair exactly the same which I'm trying to not wash until the 6 months. Wish me luck.

Am I alone nowadays in just wanting a pair of comfortable/look good jeans straight from the store ?
I admire your (DaTho, TKF, etc) patience but couldn't do it myself, plus I think I prefer a lighter grade of denim.
I buy dark blue or black jeans for 'going out' and they get relegated to 'work' drawer when colour is no longer suitable/smart.
CK appears to be my fit/cut/quality benchmark at present

The waxed denim mentioned/pictured, will they not look a bit 'rock chick' soon ? I envisage shiny spandex like biking coming up
