Excellent. Perhaps we could start with a beard roll call? A register, but not like that.

I grew a beard over Christmas, and it's still there.

I want to grow a beard, I just don't have the hairiness required.

I'll enjoy your beard exploits though.

My beard comes and goes as it pleases. Honestly, it uses my face like a hotel.

Anyway, currently it is on vacation, but it will return!

I sort of do. It's more that shaving is something that I can't be arsed to do. It's short and not at all hipsterish.

It's also grey as fcuk and getting greyer, especially towards the jaw joint/ear area.

ETA: I have been forbidden from shaving it off by 'er indoors.

Also! My brother-in-law grew a beard after many years of resisting, shaved it off, and then had to grow it back because his small daughters refused to accept him as their father without it. One of them actually cried when he emerged from the bathroom, smooth of face. And it wasn't even as if they'd never seen him clean-shaven; they were 5 and 7 when he grew it.

My friend's sister did this!

Her Dad came downstairs to breakfast without the moustache he'd had for several years and she promptly burst into tears crying "I want my Daddy back". He didn't grow the moustache back though, he just let her live with the trauma.

If you're citing positive/negative beardxamples, I think this makes a strong beard case -

Well have to agree to disagree. I like a beard that looks like it's there because there was no stopping it, instead of one that looks like it's been highly cultivated.

e: also, because I suspect I'll end up with a straggly salt & pepper mess like what Jeff Bridges done growed in that picture.

This is my sort of default position (taken for a work thing recently):

It's currently shorter because I tend to let it grow out and then run bare clippers over it back to stubble every week. So it's now midweeek and it's between the above and stubble. It's got grey bits at my chin.

All the best people have big foreheads. It shows power yet humility.

ETA - I've just noticed it makes look as if I have no external ear whatsoever, which is more odd!

I don't like cultivated at all but Bridges looks like he lives near a bayou and has scars from a gator. Mine will be somewhere in the middle.

eta forex I'm shaving part of my neck unlike you and Dis.

If my hair was receding that much, I'd probably grow a beard too

Been like that forever, I'm afraid. No signs of recession though I keep a close watch.

Honestly, I don't really do anything with mine.

I think it becomes weathered and powerful all on it's own. You know how women need to wear makeup and moisturise and stuff because their faces are basically shit, and yet men don't because they aren't? It's the same. If you pamper your beard it will turn into a woman's face and you'll need to keep pampering it.

Leave it alone and it will become forged of iron and be healthy and lustrous and all that stuff without intervention. I just wash it normally as part of my face and don't moisturise or a-thing.

Before beards were the thing, I noticed that as a beard wearer, you'd sometimes meet eyes or even have an indistinct nod from other men with beards. Now the world has caught up, this has changed. They're everywhere.

Same. Pretty sure mine is actually bulletproof now. A bit superfluous maybe as obv my jaw is anyway but that's just me, and other proper beardos.
