Messenger me up a bag

Post by HappyGoLucky @ Sat Jul 08, 2017 2:24 am

Now that I've finally moved away from 2 of my projects and have also managed to merge the needs of my Singapore & French lives into 1 tidy package in the form of a Microsoft surface, I find myself no longer dragging 3 laptops about in my trusty and very rugged maxpedition gearslinger.

Relieved of all that weight I need a smaller lighter bag to match my reduced load.

I think I find one I like the look of only to discover that they are fcuking massive, yet some of the smaller ones look like sort of thing an elderly Italian man wearing a medallion might carry, and I'm currently neither of those things.

No fixed budget, but I don't think I want to spend more than a couple of hundred unless it's something really special that I might not own, but would want to curate for the next generation of HGL sorts.

In short. Find me a bag.

Timbuk2 custom bag

The only downside is that you have to choose colours you can live with for a long time because they last forever (the current one has had daily use for 16 years and is only now starting to show signs of wear. But really I'm replacing it because I want different colours.

This thread is relevant to my interests. I have an elderly Wenger laptop bag at the moment, which is starting to fray and look worn out, and not in a good way.

e: work issues these awful laptop backpacks. I'm nearly forty-fcuking-five. I'm not wearing a fcuking rucksack to work.

Oh Ceej, in that case you will never rock the look of a Timbuk2 bag. It takes a certain panache, and to be honest, you sound like you've resigned yourself to old age, at 45. Poor you.

I'd looked at those Troops and was annoyed by having the name stamped on the front of it like that, otherwise almost perfect

I like DaTho's offering but the pricing is a bit rich for a canvas bag and I can see past the black leather strap on an olive coloured bag, for that is the one I would choose.

Looking at the Timbuk2 & Crumpler websites now, but fear I'm going to have to venture into retail hell and actually check these badboys out in the cloth/hide.

ETA, quite liking these...

My actual daily bag is a copy of a Belstaff 554. eBay is teeming with them for about thirty quid. Nice heavy canvas and thick, real leather straps.

Jesus. Why don't you tattoo "hello I work in IT" on your forehead, assuming you haven't already?

They piss people off on the tube.

Doubt that has much relevance to either HGL or CJ though.

I have a big sling type rucksack that I was using when I was carrying several laptops. Now I'm down to pretty much a tablet most of the time I'm looking for something smaller.

Pigeon is right that pubic transport is rarely a concern.

TBH I never carry a laptop about, more than on site to walk to a failed switch so no rucksack for me. I have a work laptop that lives at home for on-call & a proper PC on my desk.

Except it's not so it doesn't. The only other thing they remind me of is those record bags all the cnuty students carried a few years ago.
