Fcuking tremendous news!

Right, we've been in our current house for 8 years now and our broadband is properly shit, for a long time it was around 2 meg.

When we bought the place Openreach said that the exchange would be fibre provisioned within 6 months, they kept saying this for 6 years. They then said it was not economically viable, as you can imagine this news was not well received.

Following that and a year or so of constant complaints they re-cabled my connection in the exchange and manged to scrape another meg together, bringing our capacity to just under 3 meg.

This was is enough for streaming, but only if we don't use it for anything else at the same time - it didn't stop me complaining however.

Due to the nature of my work I can keep an eye on fibre WAN provisioning, imagine my delight when I realised that with a few favours here and there a minor diversion could be put in place for one of the main trunks.

Mine will be the only house for MILES that will have fibre, not only that but actual fibre-to-premises as well. This means I can get 1Gbps upload/download (in theory) and due to the nature of the connection it'll pretty much be uncontested.

The only slight problem I'll face will be the provisioning, as the traffic will be managed by a back-haul provider, not necessarily a service provider. That's tomorrow's problem (well, the early part of next year as it'll probably take about 3 months to light the fibre).

Look, here they are earlier today putting the ducting in, they even asked me exactly where I want it to come up by the gates!

Oh Deuts I thought this was going to be genuine tremendous news - like you'd made up with Mother or done something to benefit mankind.

Quite selfish really.

I've given up waiting for fibre BB.

My EE 4g runs at 25-30 so BT can shove their BB up their BUMBUM.

They're box balls, they're opposite what's going to be the laurel arch into the orchard.

Eventually there's going to be a paths and a partaire on the front lawn, at the moment she's (wife) still designing it and has planted them to be markers to orientate things.

(All the hedging has only been in a few years as we're putting back what was originally here)

Hmm. Posh.

But the fact that you can recite all that makes you very gay, Doots.

You understand that that's just how things are, right?

Spooky coincidence*

6 months after fibre was supposedly brought within reach, after much arguing, swearing, use of ombudsmen and the like, they blew fibre to my house this very same day.

So another week or two to connect to the hub and we should have 200Mb/s so you will (almost) all be my bitches, bandwidth wise. No pictures though because not so gay,

* not spooky at all

I've just looked at the price list for BT fttp

You must really want your high-definition grot-on-demand.

I'll be interested to hear how you two get on. We've had fibre in the road here since the year dot but a combination of suppliers refusing to connect to it and the insane costs even if they did has stalled it all hence the microwave connections.

I've finally managed to get Gigaclear to agree to provision FTTP after months and months of them claiming there wasn't any ducting to my house. (This might be my fault given the detour)

Anyway...

I'm going to start with 200Mbs and see how we get on, if it's not enough one phone call will have it at ~1Gbs

Should only be another couple of weeks, shocked to see it's a year since the ducting went in - it's been quite an effort so far...

I'm struggling to imagine what is going to overtax a 200Mbps line. Multiple 4K porn streams perhaps?

What will these youngsters think of next, I wonder? I don't know...

Yeah, I know - after such shit speeds for so long I want 1Gbs more than I need 1Gbs

I'm sure 200Mbs will be fine and will save myself £22 per month.
