Sofa so good

Post by thekungfury @ Mon Nov 13, 2017 3:30 pm

It’s been a long time since we bought a sofa and I’ve been completely uninspired by any we’ve seen sofar.

What I’m looking from you people is to say “We got ours from x and it was really good”

I used Made.com but I don't think they have show rooms outside of London so you might be shagged.

One of my neighbours gave me my sofa when I moved in because they had just got a new one and it was easier to give it to me than to figure out some other way to dispose of it.

It's a'ight.

We want new sofas as well, but can't be bothered to go through the ballache of getting rid of the old one.

Do any stores take your old one away if you buy a new one ?

Some we’ve seen do it for a charge.

eBay the old one dibs. People will go to any lengths to get something cheap.

e: teeks, we had a sofa from IKEA many years ago and it was cheap and quite alright. After that we've had our current ones since 2004 though, which means I must have bought the IKEA one at least fifteen years ago now - so as a recommendation it's not really up to date.

Free cycle it, like Ebay but everything is free for the buyer who collects.

Whilst I’d love a chocolate chesterfield it really wouldn’t go in our lounge. Contemporary and grey is the preference. We’ve had a leather sofa for years and like the hard wearing nature of leather but all the grey leather ones we’ve seen look awful. Like an elephant with cellulitis.

Datho we’ve looked round Ikea but didn’t find anything we liked. Got some wardrobes and a desk from them recently and quality seems fine so would certainly entertain one.

Hate buying sofas. I can think of anything else that you spend so much money on that you are invariably "meh" about the thing you have just bought.
£2000 for the least worst pair of sofas you can find.

We have three second-hand tetrad sofas in our place. But we live in an old cottage and I wanted something that looked like it came from Uncle Monty's drawing room.

Laugh. True.

When else in life do you say “Please take a couple of thousand pounds and give me something unremarkable but acceptable”?

Sofa so good

Post by Doctor Congo @ Mon Nov 13, 2017 4:44 pm

We got one from habitat last year which is ok, v comfy and good for slumping in front of telly which is surely its purpose. It’s also a sofa bed for guests

This one I think...

In my experience sofa beds are a jack of both trades and have never sat/slept on one that’s been comfortable. We have a big expensive futon I got railroaded into buying and I’m forever toldyousoing.

Does Habitat exist any more? Obviously they do because you bought one but I thought they’d shut down years ago?

Sofa Workshop. Wallis. Choc brown leather. Nice. Comfy.

Upsides to leather: the cat finds it harder to rip that he does fabric.
Downside: you need to feed it with bottled glop; dark colours fade in sunlight leaving you with uneven colouring.
Downsides to sofas plus Mrs 66: she keeps buying cushions and throws to put on them so that you end up with no fcuking room to sit down on what has become a stand for cushions and throws.

Two main components of comfort: depth front to back and getting the cushion fillings right.

This one is a genuine surprise. I was dubious about buying one but wife insisted. The bed is a proper mattress so actually very comfortable and the sofa itself is also comfy with no feeling of springs or other bed parts

Germany is currently trying to order one from a company called Loaf, who I have never heard of. They’re apparently good though. It is also grey.

Not long after I started going out with Mrs Dirk, I bought a sofa and chairs for my house. She arranged to be in for delivery because I couldn't.
WHen I got home I walked in to sitting room, looked around, realised they didn't suit the house at all and said "Shit, I really was hungover* when I bought this lot".

She hasn't let me forget it

Though in fact, when we moved they fitted the new house quite while. Even she admitted that. And lasted. Not that I get any credit for these facts though.

Parents spent a damn fortune on a 2 & 3 seater about 10 years ago. They were shite to sit on ( the settee's not my parents that is!) Around the same time I bought a very similar pair from Argos for a fifth of what they paid. They both preferred mine.

So 10 years on I have just replaced mine (well last December) with two from Ikea and I have to say for something so cheap they are really comfy to sit on. Even if they only lasted a few years I wouldn't mind at what I paid for them but I expect to get a similar length of time from these.

I'm surprised how many people on here want leather. I hate leather sofas. Though may be partly an association from some relatives who had one when I was a kid
