How to make a named link

Post by Pigeon @ Thu Jul 09, 2009 4:42 pm

Take your link like so:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/

Then paste it over where it says 'TYPEURLHERE' [url=TYPEURLHERE]LINK[/url]

Where it says 'LINK', type an explanation of what the link goes to, i.e. 'BBC news story'

[url=TYPEURLHERE]BBC news story[/url]

Hey presto! You have a nice, neat named link!

BBC news story

You just highlight/copy the link you want, then type "[ u r l =" then paste it in.

Then type "]", then your neat title, then "[ / u r l ]".

Obv.

You can do thumbnail links to bigger images too.

Like this:

Code: Select all

I found out how to do all these things by pressing quote and then copying what other people did. Much like my schooldays.
This instructional thread should've been around a long time ago.
I only found out about hot linking on Tuesday.

What other goodies have we got...

Ah yes... sup and sub tags. For maths and chemistry and stuff.

Code: Select all
normal text [sup]superscript[/sup] more normal text
normal text [sub]subscript[/sub] more normal text

By blind chance. In the pub.

Bam!

That would require the bbcode parser to define a subset of tags which were title-safe.

This is possible, but I'm afraid I can't be arsed.

I wrote a great deal of that article (copyedited by another no less experienced editor).

I appear to have created something of a shitstorm.

I actually did a little bit of sick, with laughter at the childishness of some of the people 'offended' by a word.

That would be this article - for the benefit of people reading this thread after today, it's currently the front page featured article.

 @ shitstorm page. Wikipedia is home to some of the most fcuked-in-the-head people on the whole internet.

Its incredible. A few months ago a famous Nazi appeared on the front page, and generated not a single complaint. Yet put a OMGZ RUDE WORD on the front page, and people go ballistic.

Its worth noting that the majority of complaints started not at 0900 GMT, but rather when the big shiny ball in the sky reached the east coast of a certain continent...
