YouTube car build series

Post by S1K @ Mon Jul 08, 2019 1:14 pm

These are a couple of car build projects I’ve been watching on YouTube

Firstly, the epic Project Binky from Bad Obsession Motorsport. This is up to 25 episodes so far covering a six year project to transplant the entire running gear from a 4wd turbocharged Toyota Celica into a Mini. The level and detail of metal fabrication is just crazy.

Second is Retropower’s painstaking build of a Mk1 Escort for Gordon Murray. This has to be a £200K car with the amount of work and top end components that have gone into it. There are fifteen episodes of this series and it’s almost finished.

With the Escort build coming to a close Retropower have just released the first episode of a new Mk2 Jaguar build.

I've been with Project Binky for ages: it's been brilliant, but there can't be much left now. I see they have acquired an MG SV to (re-)build next and their project bus is a laugh too.
Thanks for the tip on the others - I'll commence when I'm back from hols and not on roaming fees.

Another vote for Project Binky. It's superb viewing.

The Skid Factory is another worth checking out. They do some really cool stuff. The Bedford van was a highlight.

I also watch Hot Rod Garage, Roadkill, Engine Masters and Roadkill Garage. All American stuff and mostly only available via MotorTrend (kind of a paid for YouTube), but a lot of it is available for free on YouTube.

Mighty Car Mods has done great builds too in between the messing about. The 240Z with an RB25 was great as was the Honda Mini.

Thanks mfd. I see all these different names on my YouTube recommendations and elsewhere and I never know which are worth watching and which are just dross.

I've been following those too. Bad Obsession Motorsport have also started a new series converting an old mobile library truck into a car transporter/event accommodation.

Also check out the YT channel called B is For Build.

He generally picks up crash damaged cars and builds them back up - he’s done an Evora, an M5, an AM V8 Vantage, and recently a Huracan Spider.

What was really impressive though was picking up the engine and running gear from another V10 M5, along with the dashboard, getting a framerail kit and building all that into a 240Z body.

Currently he’s picked up amother really knackered Huracan - badly fire damaged and engine totally gone. He s putting a big Chevy LS V8 in there, and it’s still unclear what other radical changes he’s going to make.

Also, there’s another channel called Toms Turbo Garage. He’s got a soft spot for K cars and general Japanese stuff, likes to clean, but also did a great series on dropping a Chevy V8 into an MX5, and is currently working on a Toyota Tacoma Chevy V8 engine swap.

I love both the Restopower and Project Binky, so hopefully if you like those too, you’ll enjoy the above too.
