Don't tell me they're dead - I'd feel awful.

Not yet, but I might be before I get the fcuker finished

How is progress?

None on the body as I'm still garage-less at the mo (that will be rectified in the next few months). Got the engine finished though (thanks to Boosted)

That sounds like good engine news....

This doesn't:

Ouch, not fun - plus you still have to work out what caused it.

I'm most concerned about this bit:
Fault found:- Shaft abraded by Oil Contamination
-check lube system and sump for abrasives
I think the other turbo may have been fcuked by an oil leak early on...

At the very least you'll have to change the oil and look for shit.

Probably worth popping off the cam covers as well - have a peer down the spark plug holes also.

The oil change is a given but i think i already disposed of the old oil :-( going to have to try various things to get a look inside. This is going to get awkward.

Worth cutting the filter open and taking a look inside if you still have it.

Also could be worth taking the sump off and having a look around.

I think the filter is gone, but on the off chance it's still in the bin I'll definitely have a look inside. There is a very high chance I'll remove the sump but i don't know how to do it and keep the engine the right way up - i definitely don't want to tip any crap back into the engine.

Quite the variation I've got going on here... Also one of the spark plug holes had oil in it.

The good news is I still have the oil filter... I haven't looked inside for the bad news yet.

Ooooo!

They look expensive and lovely!

It's difficult to tell from the pictures, but I'm starting to be concerned about some of the bore marks there. Can you do a compression test?

I don't have a compression tester but I plan on solving that at the weekend. I'm also concerned about the cylinder that appears to have bits in. I'm not sure what the bits are, or how to get them out.

Without taking the heads off it's tricky. Spray in thinners and then blast out with an air line, or perhaps fill the cylinder with petrol and then suck out with a vacuum pump.

Magnet on a stick? Assuming the material you want to remove is ferrous.

that could be a plan. i'm going to try running a vacuum through some microbore copper pipe and see how i get on, but flushing with petrol may be a necessary second step. I REALLY don't want to take the heads off.

this may be worth a try also - but i'm far from convinced it is ferrous.

Looking at those pictures again, I'm not really sure you have a choice - some concerning marks there.

In the long run, it will probably save you time and possibly another two turbos if that crud gets into the oil.

Apparently not, at least while the engine is out of the car. which is a bit of an issue. I'm probably going to have to admit defeat and get a specialist to have a look.

Why not?

Bang it onto a stand (or just strap it to a pallet) stick the starter on and use jump leads to smash 12v across it from the battery.

The oil pump isn't electric or something like a ECU sync is it?

I could do that but the sump is off, there's no oil in it. If i put oil in it i need to fit the turbos before a compression test or it will piss oil everywhere. i'm looking at possibilities but i don't like any of them.

then again that might give me a chance to test oil pressure to the turbos as well. I'll have a look at stands at the weekend, it would probably help me anyway.
