Agreed its not ugly, it is the only one of their current range that looks okay.
But okay is not even remotely good enough when these are your competition:

I'm not seeing a massive uplift in visuals from the Tesla to the others, tbh.

They all look agreeable. Not fond of the hole in the bonnet on the Ferrari, though.

Fair enough. I suppose that means there is a market for them if others see it the same.

I agree that some Ferrari’s, Lambos and Porsche’s look ace but mclarens look like lotus evora and other supercars look pretty much of a muchness. I’d imagine this is pretty niche in that it’ll appeal to those stupidly wealthy that want an electric car, with ridiculous acceleration etc. I’m hoping it’ll be a proof of concept car, meaning it’s providing the technology for the next wave of electric cars with greater range etc.

I suspect (in my uneducated way) that once you get to "ludicrously fast", there's a confluence of physics and materials science which sharply constrains the available shapes.

AFAIK the cars in TT's post all come in at under 220MPH (fcuking slow bastards!) top speed - but the top speed of the Tesla is supposed to be 250MPH. I think (again, I'm thick as fcuk on this sort of thing) that the additional 30MPH will make all the difference.

Will the day come when even the most vanilla of Granny-shifting hatchbacks will have the capability to get to 60mph in three seconds or less?

You'd want something to inhibit it in town - I dunno, a switch or some kind of GPS inhibition, or whev . It doesn't matter that hypercars can do it, because statistically speaking, they don't exist.

But when every Peugeot 208 or equiv can do it? It'll be murder on the dancefloorhigh street.

Very much so, air resistance is on a non linear scale, so a 25 mph increase at 225 takes significantly more effort than at 200 mph.

Yet the designs are not always necessarily what you would expect, being ignorant of physics.
The Tesla up there is what I would expect if I was guessing at the optimal shape but other cars that do 250mph like the koenisegg/ Bugatti/Porsche 9ff look a lot less smooth and dull (to me)

I deliberately left McLaren out of my argument because they are in the same category for me that I do not understand how anyone could part with so much money for something so ordinary looking. (although I don't count the P1 because even if a little ordinary in pictures, in the flesh it looks quite awesome)

It didn't even click that they were missing. That explains why it looks so wrong to me.
I know that technically it is a cleaner shape, but its like seeing a bloke with no ears. You wouldn't think "Oh, he is aerodynamic " you would think "He look fcuking weird" and bully him.

Yes also not legal in the UK (AFAIK) other car makers have tried this in the past but if the camera fails you can't safely drive the car, which is stupid.

True but until we see them in the flesh it might be difficult to have a final verdict. But mclarens are a case in point, they do sell some cars whilst looking utterly dull.

This is the 2018 Aston Martin Vantage, replacement for the current Vantage.

It's getting a 503bhp 4 litre turbocharged V8 from Mercedes-Benz and a £120,000 price tag.

That AM looks stunning and I badly want one.

I feel a little disappointed that the engine isn't AM (I realise that the V12 is derived from 2 Ford V6s, but it's not available in any Ford that I know of) but it will be reliable and well engineered.

No wonder they were moaning about Brexit the other day, I wonder how much of that price tag goes on the engine.

It does looks like it's made from the stuff you can buy in Halfords for chavving up a Fiesta. Let's give them the benefit of that doubt that this might be a pre-production car.

This the Lamborghini Anus, the company's first non sportscar since the LM002. Like the Aston, it will also have a 4 litre turbocharged V8 but this one is reputed to make 650bhp. Lamborghini is owned by VW through Audi and the Anus will share underpinnings with the Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga.

The production-spec car will be shown in a fortnight on 4/12.

Price $200000

Ooof

I know I know, heralding a new age of decent electric cars etc

Given the performance, isn't that about right when you compare it to other high end supercars?

A Ferrari is going to be well over $200,000.
Same with a Lamborghini.
What are the top Porsches? Like a GT3 or something?
MClaren, I think will be over $200k.

A Bugatti, or Pagani is probably going to be adding another zero to that.

But if they can get the range of 600miles from a car with that sort of performance available, there's no excuses now.

All makers of high end supercars. Tesla certainly isn't that. Not far off double the money of a 750hp Corvette ZR1.

Got a spare £268,000 burning a hole in your pocket and feel the need to buy a Dutch supercar? Maybe the Spyker Preliator is the car for you. The engine is provided by Koenigsdogsegg and if exclusivity is your thing you'll be pretty unlikely to bump into another one coming towards you.
