No, it had gone. But there's a Grand Cherokee I might have a gander at tomorrow.

Have Land Rover accidentally competed themselves out of the market by having really good cars either side of the Discovery in the range?

Autocorrect

Saw one on Tuesday for the first time! Look ok but just like everything else in their line up really.

I saw one this morning. They look smaller than before, or is it just everything else has got bigger?

Just sat here wondering what to do at the weekend when I received this email from an Uncle which has cheered me up no end.

" Hi Tom,
Just bought an Aston Martin from HR Owen in Reading. If you are free and have the time/inclination I have arranged for you to go and have a look and a test drive. No worries if not, they are delivering it either way...."

Anyone else test driving Aston Martins this weekend? Just me?

No AM test drive for me but my godmother has just invited me to the Goodwood Festival of Speed with a promise of a paddock pass. She and her husband go as guests of Mike Skinner, an American racing driver (video below) and she reckons she can wangle me a pass.

I didn't see the word sport on it anywhere, but you're probably right as cars never get smaller.

Good grief! Prices for used cars are all over the ruddy shop! Just looking at stock with local dealers, how on actual earth can a 72,000-mile 08 Qashqai 4x4 be six thousand pounds? That's nine years old.

The Qashqai is in this weird bubble, seemingly unaffected by external forces. During the recession whilst cars sales plummeted and factories closed the QQ carried on regardless. The manufacturing press reckoned the profile of the buyer was that they were risk averse cash buyers, essentially sensible (dull) people and the practicality of the car appealed to them.

They're also more likely to keep cars for longer so fewer appear on the market which keeps prices nice and high.

Apparently the original XC90 is similar.

I'd never heard of it or seen one before right now when Google confirms you're absolutely right. That looks ace, as much as a big estate car can ever look ace.

SUVs are like a parallel universe at the moment: I've seen the Tesla one, the Maserati one, and even a new MG one (!!!). And yet hardly seen any new Discoveries.

I saw on last week, it does hark back to when Volvos looked like cars. I liked it too.

VW have just announced that they're doing an Up! GTI next year. It'll make the same power as the Mk1 Golf GTI and is pretty much the same size as the original GTI albeit a bit heavier at 997kg as opposed to the Golf's 810kg (dry), for a power to weight ratio of 113kg/ton against the Mk1's 133kg/ton. The Up! has a good deal more torque though and with a 1litre 3cyl turbo will presumably have a bit of headroom for tuning. It's coming early 2018 and will be about £15k.

You must have seen some ugly arses. Mind you it's labelled as 'wob' it does look like a five year old made it out of body filler.

So 25% heavier, less power & too high to handle as well. Shows why the hot hatch is dying really.

Not convinced. I suspect that hybrid/petrol most likely to be the standard for quite some time until battery range is sorted and prices come down.

Germany are planning on outlawing the combustion engine by 2050, which is 32 and a bit years away. So it will happen, just estimates on how soon vary.

This bit makes my teeth itch
He goes on to mention that electric vehicles will have a life span of 1 million (16,09,344 km) miles and in comparison, fossil fuel based cars have a lifespan of just about 2 lake miles (3,21,000 km approximately)

Totally right ceej. Its a fcuking embarrassment! The lurkers and passers-by must be chortling their mocking and chortling their way past the site, slightly shocked at how we lost our mojo over a few short years in the same way as how ex-employees might see a nasty old boss being fed burgers through a straw after a stroke.
