New Arrival: Mitsubishi Shogun V6

General car gossip.

That first one was a bit of a clencher. But also shows the difference the rear diff lock makes, when I had a wheel in the air and couldn't move - but then after locking up just drove through.

I've got plenty of other videos to come, which I'll try to keep below two minutes each. Including some deep mud, which is of course what everyone wants to see with off road things. And yes, getting stuck.

I felt a bit guilty afterwards, as we went to a hand car wash on the way home, and the bloke's eyebrows almost fired off the top of his head when I pulled in. I told him I only had a tenner, so could they do as much as they could to clean the outside.

The thing was spotless once they were done. Amazing. They even soaped off the roof and windows. But I still had an hour of jetwashing the underneath on my drive to get mud out of the suspension and skid plates, then sweep the piles of mud out into the road.

That was at a local pay & play site not too far from me. It was their first weekend open this season, so wasn't too busy. I've been there before but not for almost ten years, since I had my last Jeep.

Damo/Anyone

Would it be completely pointless me going on one of those courses with road tyres? Im tempted to go this weekend.
Are mine road tyres?

Bye

Tyres probably make more difference to off road capability than literally anything else. That said, your Patrol is a superb off road car, so will have plenty of tricks up its sleeve on any tyres. I'd give it a go, you'll probably be amazed what it can do, especially if you're not used to off road things.

There was a bloke on a Disco 3 there yesterday on full-on road tyres, and he was having a whale of a time. I'll try to post a video of it later.

I can't see what tyres you've got from your photos, but I'd definitely do it and see what happens.

This thread pleases me so much.

Teets, I demand that you go and drive around in a quarry/sandpit thing like Damo did. I further demand that you video it and post it here.

To be fair the D3s are one of the best off-roaders LR ever made and if it was specced up then it’s monstrously capable on stock tyres and pretty much unstoppable with decent knobbly ones. But you’re right, by the looks of it Teets tyres are only semi-Road anyway so he should be able to have plenty of fun.

Teets it’s also worth looking at tyre options - decent A/Ts for the Disco are cheaper than decent road tyres so you may well be surprised.

When Teets get stuck on something I can see him raging and just leaving the fcuking thing there and getting a cab home.

TT I don't know what size tyres your Patrol has, but I got 4x decent branded (Goodyear) A/Ts from Black Circles in 265/70 16 for £103 each, fitted.

Remould muds can be even cheaper, and probably fine if you're not relying on it for hundreds of motorway miles at a time, like I want mine to be able to do.

Oh I forgot to say: I broke my radio aerial off going through some bushes yesterday. I don't care at all because the radio was terrible anyway, and the power aerial never went up or down. Which is why it's now broken off.

I will not be replacing it.

Will not. I'm going to cable tie a Bluetooth speaker to the passenger grab handle and then fire the Radio Player app at it from my phone.

Was this the sand pit at Bures? I nearly stayed in an airbnb across the road from it last year, until a change of plan took me elsewhere instead.

Very nice.

You've probably seen this, but it was one of the recommended videos after yours finished. Something to try next time perhaps?

This shows how well the image stabilisation on my fauxpro works. The camera is rigidly mounted either on the roof or the window of the car, so any movement is down to the gyros trying to keep it tidy:

I've got another off road play day this weekend. Brace yourselves for more ropey fauxPro footage and driving ineptitude.

I should be able to edit the video on my new laptop, not that you'll be able to see any difference.
