What paint are you using Datho? I need to do my sump guard, rock sliders and bumpers. Hammerite was rubbish I am thinking either truck bed liner or something called Buzzweld which people in Landy circles seem to love.

OP, not sure where you’re based but the Cat was stolen from our neighbour’s Shogun twice in a couple of months. That was SE London.

This satin stuff is rubberised peelable spray, Halfords' own cheapo version of Plasti Dip.

But I've also got some truck bed liner paint for the tow bar and hitch, and for the front grille and bull bar. That should be indestructibility permanent.

I know the rubber stuff isn't permanent at all, but the door mirror I did before still looks unmarked, and the stuff is a piece of piss to use.

I'm in the rural wilds of the Essex/Suffolk border. Hopefully less of a hotspot for similar crimes.

I did the boot handle and plate surround as well:

Unfortunately due to schoolboy error I got a bit of overspray,

but it polished off easily enough:

Done!

But all I really feel I've achieved is to make the rest of it look utterly shonky. Especially the tow bar which now suddenly looks like a rusted mess.

The pikeys'll still find you. Not for nothing are those Mitsubishi are called "PikeyWagons" over here.

Despite not wanting one, I’m very jealous of your car datho. It sounds a genuine gem and probably worth keeping forever.

You're right, I've been very lucky with this one >flat out ignores costs for repairs and servicing and new tyres and cambelt<

I love it and love driving it, and Mrs Thorn and the PKs all adore it too. It's just so relaxing and effortless to be in, and now it's got new pulleys and tensioners and belt it doesn't squeak or squeal at all. It's virtually silent woofling along until you prod it a bit.

The Shogun has pulled double duty today, acting as a shady picnic area in the forest:

e: but I also suffered tremendous 4x4 envy when I saw this brute parked up nearby:

I was playing eyelines again yesterday, at Sainsbury's. This time with a Jaguar F-Pace.

e: oh, and I'm not sure if that's a Q5 or a Q7 on the end.

Loving your work.

But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE spray up that tow bar surround - my inner OCD is making me twitchy.

Not quite that cheap.

It does look excellent value though and would be brilliant...

Here's one that's slightly more expensive then, to make you feel better.

That looks immaculate!

I wasn't being snobby about the price - my comment on the other thread was as I'm starting to consider replacing my car and it might be with an SUV like a Q5, Kodiaq or similar. I couldn't have a car this long in the tooth as a daily family car sadly.

I know, I was only taking the piss.

Although tbh I am so impressed by the relaxed comfort of the Shogun that I genuinely would happily use it as a family car if it wasn't for the thirst and my daily commute.

It's so fun and easy and lovely to be in that the PKs insist we use it for everything at the weekends. It never lets me down (other than when the engine completely broke, but shhh!) and for some reason I can ignore niggly things like the cruise control sometimes not switching on, or the driver's window sometimes not making it right to the top.

I suppose because I've just clicked with it.

But most of what I like about it would be just as valid in something new(-er), except then you'd also have electrically-adjustable seats, touchscreens, and a healthy fear of breaking it off road.

More inconsequential fiddling about:

New (not new) replacement badge off eBay for the tailgate handle.

Degreased and cleaned up;

Pow! Painted satin (stealthy!) black;

You're going to fill all the bits between the letters in something that matches the base coat of the truck so it's legible aren't you?

That's reminding me of being young and thinking that the body-coloured badges on the Mk2 Toyota MR2 were really cool.
