General car gossip.

Another Burnside dithering\grey car thread

Post by DI Burnside @ Mon Jan 07, 2019 10:24 am

I have started tentatively looking at cars again with a view to changing mine.

I currently have a Mondeo estate in the Titanium X spec which I quite like (both the car and the spec), but I have no need for an estate anymore really and fancy an SUV type thing so it's a bit higher up :grandad:

Must have:

Adaptive headlights
Rear parking sensors
Bluetooth
DAB radio
USB
Heated front screen
Cruise control

Would like:

Rear parking camera
Front parking sensors
Sat nav
Bluetooth ability to connect 2 phones simulataniously (as in no need to switch from one to the other)
Heated\cooled seats

Not keen on electronic handbrakes. Prefer a manual but not really bothered.

This criteria may well be added to obv.

Currently eyeing the Ford Kuga but am open to anything really, I have no brand snobbery.

There's a chance I may listen this time.

ETA:

No older than 3 years
Budget £16000k max
2.0 ish

My Dad has had a Toyota Rav-4 for a couple of years which he rates and I’m fairly sure it ticks those boxes. Even has a manual handbrake which bizarrely he enjoys.

He’s old, like you, and likes getting into a car at bum height rather than getting down into and up out of a car. He also uses it when he’s doing his volunteering non-emergency ambulance thing and old people, like you, have commented that it’s easier to get in/out of.

You could just squeak into a new-shape Citroen 3008.

Massively racist to call a Peugeot a Citroen as well DT, I suppose all French car brands look alike to you?

He wants something dull and doesn't care about brand. So there you go. Albeit, it's a Peugeot.

DB, with your criteria I would probably buy one of these.
uninspiring but do everything, have everything and are really good cars

Nissan Qashqai btw. The 'tekna' linked below is the full spec one

It's on the list, but the smaller engine worries me a bit. I'll have to test drive one to see if it's ok.

That seems to be the best answer in this category. Or a Skoda Yeti.

My sister just 'upgraded' her Qashqai to a Yeti and really wants to swap back to a Qashqai. I can see why.

We might be talking at cross purposes here. You want to buy a 2nd hand SUV. I’ve suggested a 2nd hand SUV.

A quick look on the Toyato website suggests you can buy a new one. Possibly only electric/hybrid now? Don’t know/care.

I know someone who bought a Quashqai because it was the best combination of fuel economy and reliability and performance available in SUV format, then he hated driving it because it was very bland . So I agree one of them, maybe a petrol if you do lower annual mileage because diesel is a false economy on short journeys.

I had a sportage a few years ago - it was the model before the one pictured, but I think essentially the same. Really well spec'd, well made and a nice place to sit. Not the most dynamic of drives but you could chuck it around a bit, and mine was AWD too.

Maybe it's just round here as I only searched with 15 miles of me but there were only 4/5 year old ones.

Surely in this situation, the answer to the question would be "I walked"...

Some of our response cars are Yeti's so they can't be too bad, I'll have a nose when I get a minute.

You could get an Audi Q3 for your budget which I imagine is similar to the Yeti
