Gig reviews

Some things cultured but mostly films and telly stuff.

Watson was good, a lot of interaction with the audience although that may have been something to do with it being only a 300 seater. I don't think I'd go looking for tickets for him again, but I wouldn't say no if her indoors wanted to go. 6, pushing 7, out of 10.

Michale McIntyre this Saturday, although I'm already on the wrong frame of mind as the O2 is a shit venue.

In addition to the list above we've also booked to see Russel Kane in March.

Gig reviews

Post by DI Burnside @ Sun Sep 30, 2012 7:09 pm

I'd give McIntyre a 7, kept me chuckling throughout with a good few belly laughs thrown in.

I'd give the O2 a 1, and that's just for how well organised they are at getting you out and on your way. Too big for a proper atmosphere, the seats are tiny, and not enough toilets or bars on the upper levels.

I won't be going back there to see anyone unless I get a box, but Mrs C is taking HRH LMC there to see One Direction next year. Poor Mrs C.

ETA: Future bookings now added to:

13th October, Ross Noble, Cambridge Corn Exchange

28th November, Al Murray at Bedford Corn Exchange.

16th February, Micky Flanagan, Northampton Derngate.

17th March, Russell Kane, Bedford Corn Exchange.

I love Ross Noble and think Al Murray would probably be fun to watch but Mickey Flanagan bores me and Russel Kane should be stopped.

I like that you're getting out and seeing loads of stuff though, haven't been to a good one for a while.

Flanagan is by far the funniest comedian I've ever seen, I was in proper pain from laughing when we saw him a while back.

Mrs C likes Kane, I can take him or leave him to be honest.

We're front row for Murray, Mrs C is shitting herself.

Is Al Murray still doing that awful Pub Landlord skit ?

I also hate Mickey Flanagan, don't understand why he has the career he does.

Elina Garanca last week at the Barbican.

Truly, truly, truly EPIC.

5 encores, 7 standing ovations and with good reason. Quite possibly the best conservatoire performance I have ever had the joy to see / hear. Absolutely phenomenal.

He's like Peter Kay to me. He just lists things and expects you to laugh. Maybe I'm just not old enough to get his attempts at jokes.

I saw Peter Kay ages ago, he was merely ok and is nothing like Flanagan. As Rufus Hound said of Kay, "He's very good at remembering things."

First half was Massenet / Saint-Saëns / Berlioz / Verdi, second half was all excerpts from Bizet's Carmen. Conducted by her husband, and accompanied by the LSO ffs, couldn't really ask for better.

And there, in the second still, she's belching her pre-concert pizza.

I like Russell Kane although he doesn't make me laugh. I don't like Mickey lanaganF; he also doesn't make me laugh. I haven't really ever seen any Peter Kay things, but I do know that one of his routines is something about saying "garlic bread?!" a few times. Knowing that hasn't made me laugh. Who else have you said? Al Murray? Doesn't make me laugh either, and unlikeable to boot. Sweaty. Ross Noble is alright and seems amenable when I see him guest on panel things but I've never seen him stand up so don't know, but on panel things he does not make me laugh. Most comedy does not make me laugh, but Harry Hill.

So that proves it I'm afraid.

eta: Sean Locke, funny.

Just googled Russel Kane not knowing who he was. Now I see that I do know who he was.

Really don't like him. I've seen his stand up on TV and thought it was crap and I can't stand him as a presenter.

There are stand up comedians I like, I guess these comics are aiming at someone older than me. I was at the oldest 9 in the 80s.
