What have you watched on telly?

Some things cultured but mostly films and telly stuff.

Saw my first one last night. I think it's best watched with the sound off but even then I'd have to put up with Harris' face which always looks as though he's on the point of orgasm into a small child.

Anyone been watching Mum? Fantastic BBC sitcom, second series on now. Leslie Manville leads a great cast.

Funnily enough, my actual mum texted me to tell me that the characters on Mum went to a pub near where I live and urged me to watch it. Is it actually any good? The very name puts me off.

Watched a little of Sport Relief on Friday evening, and to my astonishment they had some celebrity boxing. Actual licenced proper boxing. I saw the bout featuring Helen Skelton and some girl off Love Island. I like Helen Skelton as a presenter - she's on Countryfile sometimes, and used to do Blue Peter. She's gutsy and fun and the sort of presenter I like my daughter watching. So I liked the idea of Skelton battering this other girl thoroughly, because I liked the idea that somehow talent could defeat coming second on Love Island.

And sure enough, Skelton did batter this other girl. Smashed her all over the ring - wading in relentlessly like a tiny blonde Terminator. Mrs Thorn had to turn away because she didn't want to witness the destruction any further. Odd telly.

When we started it, Mrs 66 piped up with “oh, that’s the thing with Clive in it”.

What?

Turns out that the guy who plays Rollo was a parent at the school she teaches at, and his daughter was in her class for a bit. She’s had him across the table a few times for parents’ evening.

I asked if he was puny in real life. Turns out not ...

I caught a bit of that. We saw the bout between lifelong top flight athlete Wayne Bridge and posh reality boy Spencer Matthews. The result was completely and tbh uncomfortably predictable.

Agreed, odd telly.

The first 4 or 5 episodes of Santa Clarita Diet season 2.

Just as good as the first one.

I watched this but until now I would never have told anyone. It really is puerile crap of exactly the same type as all the other puerile crap my wife watches.
And yet I found it strangely tolerable. Almost certainly just because Drew Barrymore is in it and aged 17 I bought my only ever top shelf magazine which was a playboy that had her in it.
I kept that for years until I lent it to an Italian friend and never got it back. Okay?

Anyone here watched the Gomorra serieses?
Ive just finished season 3 and it was excellent. At least as good as the first two to my surprise.
It IS subtitled so you cant play your phone whilst watching it which is a killer for us all nowadays, but still.- make the effort.

I watched the first two and loved it. I am aware that there's a third series available but haven't gotten round to it yet. It's a great counterpoint to all the 'glamorous' gangster series we're more used to.

I didn't know Gomorrah had been made into TV series, but I read Roberto Saviano's book when it came out & saw the film adaptation & both are well worth the time.

Currently 2/3 of the way through Jessica Jones S2. And really enjoying it. It’s much better than Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Defenders put together. Largely, I think, because it’s about a largely dysfunctional PI and her marginally less dysfunctional friends and acquaintances, and she just happens to be very strong but hardly ever lets on that she is. There’s no villain lining up to take over the world or New York’s crime, and its better for that.

A few new episodes of TWD, which still vacillates wildly between horrible and interesting, and tedious drear. Never has a programme infuriated me so much by making me carry on watching it even though it long-ago battered any enthusiasm out of me.

Harris, not bad, but I thought it was a known fact he was paid good money to be nice about Porsche.

This week, guess what?

The slower car (Cayman S) won the 0-Whatevs test and he managed to turn the rather lovely new Alpine into a ball of flames.

Curious.

I vaguely recal in the book there is a bit where someone gets killed by being consumed by a vagina of a god.

Several of both sexes, Stuart.

KM take note.

Just started on this. Suitably violent and dark, plus Gillian Anderson and Ian McShane bonuses. Slightly peanusy, but good so far. Peter Stormare always good value as token crazy Russian guy.
