What have you watched on telly?

Some things cultured but mostly films and telly stuff.

span wrote:I watched the first episode of The Replacement, yesterday - it was very good! It was about an architect who gets pregnant and suspects her replacement is out to take her place.

Mr Span didn't want to watch it at first because it was "about women", which I chided him for. Then I started complaining about it being well implausible because everyone in the office was Scottish - what are the odds of that?! What weird theme office would be all Scottish? Anyway, imagine my etc when I realised it was set in Scotland!! But they were behaving perfectly normally in every other way so I hadn't realised.

So anyway if you can get past the PC gone mad of it being mainly women and all Scottish, then I recommend it.

I watched the first two of them the other night after an identical conversation with my wife.
I didn't even realise they were all Scottish until you said that. I think I might be borderline not-racist.
It was okay. I haven't mentioned it to anyone else until now because I didn't really think it was particularly good. All very contrived and situations agonisingly engineered to make the wrong party look crazy to colleagues. Add this to the horribly contrived yet entirely predictable ending to the first episode and I am just not its biggest fan I am afraid.
That said, my wife loves it. It must be a womens programme.

More Legion. I'm almost up to date with the series so far and I am enjoying it tremendously. It continues to be utterly loopy, but also utterly charming. It's very funny as well, but not because of jokes: I think it must be simply that the oddness of the world it presents works for me and I find it makes me smile all the time - as of the programme itself has funny bones.

Dan Stevens is also terrific. His performance walks a tightrope between subtlety and panto, which seems perfect for a man whose psychic powers are overwhelming his understanding of the world.

If you like left field things, I couldn't recommend this more.

Has anyone tried Midnight Sun? Sky Atlantic's new scandi-noir with Peter Stormare and some French woman. It's too early to know for sure but it set out it's stall from the off with some brutal violence and bits of a bloke's head splattered around.

And it's not often that anything genuinely surprises me any more, but the first two minutes of episode two definitely did - I was actually stunned.

I've been watching Daredevil on Netflix. I have enjoyed it which was a surprise as have become a bit bored with Marvel stuff. It's surprisingly violent in series 2. Worth a watch for sure.

Excellent baddies in DD. Makes a big difference. Have you got the ep with Punisher and DD on the roof, with the stairwell scene? Very cool shot.

You might like Jessica Jones. VG baddy in that too.

Yes that episode was very good, there's an episode in series 2 in a prison that's brutal.

I did watch JJ but never finished the series as it went on a bit, agreed though the baddie was good and an unexpected actor.

I haven't tried Luke Cage or Iron Fist as that might be overkill.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but I watched 'The Young Offenders' on Netflix last night, independent Irish film following two tracksuited lads on a cocaine run of sorts.

Not what i'd normally watch, and almost didn't, but thoroughly enjoyed it and certainly suggest you give it a go.

Luke Cage is pretty good but avoid Iron Fist at all costs - is truly appalling.

Anyone watch the recent series of Broadchurch?
Centred round a series of violent rapes. It was typically excellent and compulsive viewing...but...
There was an unbelievably ludicrous theme running through it where the sinister pest-type people in it were distributing porn and this was made to cast sinster shadows over everyone the writers wanted you to suspect.
By 'distributing porn' I mean giving one another memory sticks with some ordinary porn on it as though nobody watches porn except for horrific people and that it is so underground that you need to share memory sticks and keep it on your computer rather than just googling 'gilf fisting'. It was ludicrous and I cant comprehend that nobody involved said "This is stupid. Everyone watches porn and nobody puts it on memory sticks. Even if they did it would be so run of the mill that every single person would be a suspect"
Anyone else watch it?

I thought the porn they were sharing was footage of the previous rapes?

No, and it sounds terrible, so I won't be.

However, I am on thin ice, as I recently found that Canadian Netflix has Supergirl, which is proper brain-out bubblegum TV. And I devoured it remorselessly. So what do I know?

Oh yes, I know this.

I love Supergirl! We sit and watch it as a family, as although it's right on the edge of appropriate for my youngest i think the family/empowerment/do the right thing/tolerance message hidden among the fun space alien punch ups is a decent one to expose them to.

We all love it.

Big Heads.

If you'd pitched the prog idea of 5 people playing "it's a knockout" type games in massive celebrity heads I would have stood on my producers desk and pissed on your powerpoint laptop in a Wolf of Wall Street way.

BUT
Watched it in the gym with the sound down but with subtitles.
I don't laugh out loud very often at stuff on tv but it me and my mate laugh out loud several times.

Was it just me who laughed? Or was it shit with the sound up? Or both?

That was on in my house last night whilst my wife laughed a lot and I stared at it, and then her, and wondered if anyone could possibly produce a worse programme and why did I marry this woman.
My tolerance for puerile shit has gone right through the floor lately and this was the worst of the worst. Agree with your 'it's a knockout' analogy but it didn't add anything new to a format that was tired in 1980. Awful awful programme.
Some of it you can be forgiven for having no sound but the presenters were so embarrassingly bad that my toes were curling with embarrassment.

Ah ok. It was me being unable to hear the shit presenters then.

Also I managed to watch a whole episode of TopGear without fast forwarding.

Harris's cumface surprised/excited expression (and his rapist eyes) was still annoying though but his opinion was spot on with the Cayman- what a hopeless noise. Even my HertzQuattro sounds better than that.

Oh and the JK- what a cocky wanker. He really thought his shit was custard and his piss was champagne.

Agree about Top Gear. This season has been the most enjoyable for a long time but Harris is definitely the weak link. He is also gradually becoming a parody of himself and he just doesn't pull it off at all as we all know he is the sort of kid we bullied at school

I don't know what's wrong wth me.

I half-watched the first episode of TG and it was fine, I suppose but I've not been able to bring m myself to watch any more, not because I actively don't want to but just because I can't be fcuked. Same with The Grand Tour. Got 2 in and just drifted away. Do I not like cars anymore?? :(

I still like cars, but have seen enough programs to now be bored with the same old exposition/rinse/repeat with some well framed shots thrown in. I think every time Schmee150 posts a vlog, even if no-one watches it, part of the world's enthusiasm for cars dies, a bit like a reverse tinkerbell.

For the sake of our community, the date is said to be 17 July.

This rings alarmingly true, now you mention it.

His mix of smarmy grin and anorakky peedoing of cars pushes a button in me that has for many years been left with a layer of the dust of maturity settled on it: that feeling of dislike for a band/song I previously liked, on hearing that some cnut or other liked it too.

Ok starting from the top:

1. whispy thin shitty unkempt hair
2. slitty little untrustworthy eyes with no definite colour
3. tiny lispy little mouth- like a ducks anus and big stupid teeth like a rat
4. skin like a crack whore
5 chubby little cheeks like a stupid baby

I would pay to watch someone bully him until he cried.
