What have you watched on telly?

Some things cultured but mostly films and telly stuff.

Extraordinary. In the last five minutes it went haywire with developments.

Now you see we watched that episode, after rave reviews from someone at the GF's workplace and found it to be rubbish. Each to their own.

We watched the one with the girl breaking into the crossword writer's rooms last night - it was excellent! Better than the restaurant one, I thought.

Great twists in both plot and tone, but like always it managed not to feel contrived.

Katherine Ryan: In Trouble. A recorded-live stand up show by the panel-show bothering snidey Canadian lady.

Surprisingly very very funny indeed.

On Netflix, if you care.

I tried to watch this on Netflix and found it completely unfunny.

Netflix comedy specials I have liked though:

Jen Kirkman, I’m Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Fine)
Jim Jefferies, Bare
Anthony Jeselnik, Thoughts and Prayers
Chris Porter: Ugly and Angry

I don't usually watch or like stand up videos, so probably won't watch the ones you've suggested I'm afraid. I was surprised to find the Katherine Ryan one as funny as I did too.

Lethal Weapon. The terrible-idea-on-any-terms telly series reboot, with a Wayans. It could only ever be dreadful (in fact I even had a challenge going with a friend as to which of us would manage to watch more minutes of it before quitting in despair), so it was quite some surprise that it was genuinely good fun and entertaining all the way through.

It looked big budget and was well put together - directed by McG, remember him off the nineties? Decent jokes, reasonable stupid action, and a better-than-Mel-Gibson portrayal of Riggs.

Yes, really.

It's on ITV player if you want, but you won't.

e: oh, also the next episode of Inside No9, about crosswords. Just horrid.

Top Gear, last night. I'm sure there's a separate thread but anyway. It was alright: I didn't not enjoy it, but it went in one eye and out the other. Very like old Clarkson Top Gear, better than Evans Top Gear, stiff awkward studio banter but I suppose that's to be expected to start with.

None of it made me cringe with embarrassment to be watching it, though - which was often a problem with Clarkson Top Gear - so in that way it was an improvement.

I was on the blower while it was on, so no sound. But the first 10 minutes I did actually concentrate on made it worthy of a re-visit through i-player. Something the Evans' version never did.

I ffwd through the talky bits but I did quite enjoy the rest of it. As you said it was like a return to Top Gear of ten or fifteen years ago before it went up its own arse.

Watched "Better Call Saul 2" over the weekend.

Some good bits but on the whole a bit disappointing compared to season 1.

I watch d the end of Taboo the other night. Did anyone else watch it all?

It was really good, kind of, but also a bit mad. I'm still not entirely sure what it was but I enjoyed it overall, I think.

The first few episodes hinted at some sort of supernatural element to the proceedings - Tom Hardy sleep-bumming his sister, him being drowned by some sort of water-spirit from his past, repeated weird scenes of ghostly figures haunting him.

And then towards the end they all sort of stopped and they ended it all with a kind of double-cross heist ending thing and sailed away.

Not sure what to make of it tbh. Thoughts?

Anyone else seen/watching The Americans? Part way through S2 now. Good, if stretching plausibility in places.

Also still enjoying Legion.

Ha, I've been doing the same. I love how it sounds threatening if you say it to men, and sexually threatening if you say it to women.

Best line in anything in ages, I reckon. But still, what happened to the supernatural element?? I didn't especially need it in the first place, and am quite glad it wasn't there, but why was it suggested? Bit weird.

I know what you mean, but I think it served the purpose of building his character into a sinister semi-devil. Looking back, a lot of the stuff was there to simply make his character. It also seemed to allow me to accept that he could predict all the things that were happening and hence win

So you think he was slightly supernatural? I suppose that's all I'm concerned about-is it a world in which magic exists or not?

I never really liked his sister though. Or that American doctor.

Yes, I might be wrong, but I thought it was quite clear he was like a witch-doctor type African black magic man.
My only criticism was that if I could make spirit go and bum anybody no matter where they are I definitely wouldn't settle for my sister. That is bizarre. I would be bumming Angelina Jolie and then flying over to wherever Kate Winslet was. or something

Agreed. I'd also be funnier with my powers than him. You know, pat Winslet on the fanny and spirit-whisper "Awooga" in her ear before departing for wherever Taylor Swift kips.

I do. But I bet you're thinking 90s Winslet anyway aren't you? It's just cheating.

Okay, here are some age appropriates for you:

Amy Adams
Eva Mendes
Sienna Miller
Duchess Of Cambridge

IIRC the Duchess's sister. young Pippa, was offered £1 million after the Duchess's wedding to do bumming in porn. Because her dress.
