What have you watched on telly?

Some things cultured but mostly films and telly stuff.

Struggling to think of anything worse I’ve tried to watch.

Very good so far. It starts with the power station explosion and is following the firefighting and delayed evacuation efforts so far.

It's as brilliant as everyone says. The whole thing is deeply unsettling - a perfect combination of story, visuals, and soundtrack - but the last scene of ep 2 was like a frickin horror movie. I had to read something light and fluffy before I could sleep.

I'm watching The Expanse right now, starting at S1. Please don't spoil it if you've seen it. I haven't enjoyed anything as much as this for years.

It’s awlright. I am near the end of season 3. It’s not bad but a little trite in places.

Guardian wrote:After three of its five episodes aired, the miniseries Chernobyl found its way to the top of IMDB’s top 250 TV shows in history list. While the fan-voted chart might seem hyperbolic, given that the drama had only just crossed the halfway point, it is not undeserving of the honour. Chernobyl is masterful television, as stunning as it is gripping, and it is relentless in its awful tension, refusing to let go even for a second.

Do it.

I’ve watched the first two series of Line Of Duty.

Keeley Hawes was very good in the second series, which I thought was a bit better than the first. I’ve binge watched both series all in single night and I’ve got the third one at home now too.

Chernobyl continues to impress.

You can kiss a lot of frogs with Netflix and still end up single. I’ve tried The Society (interest evaporated after 2 eps) and am now struggling with What/If, which I’m still having trouble making sense of a good half of the storylines 6 eps in. There have been some other wastes of bandwidth which I’ve completely excised from my memory.

Yes, agree with all of this. It's understated, powerful, just brilliant.

I just realised who Stellan Skarsgård is in it - he looks so different!

I fought my through this, bit of a modern version of Lord of the Flies. I don't think we're their target audience Greg.

Easy on Netflix.

“This television series follows different couples in their respective forms of relationship exploration in modern day Chicago. Each episode follows separate pairs that cross paths now and again, rather than having every character tie into every episode.”

Sounds shit but it’s like catnip.

Last night on TV : Goodfellas, Casino and For A Few Dollars More
ALL on at the same time ffs! I know I have the DVD's for all three but somehow it's (insert adjective) on live tv. I'm not sure what.

Anyway I watched parts of all 3, dictated by the ad breaks, and they were all excellent.

I don't know what it is either but you're right. I will happily sit through a film if it's on telly, when I've left the dvd unwatched on the shelf for years.

I’ll watch The Day Of The Jackal or The Terminator or Mad Max 2 whenever they’re on TV, regardless of the fact that I’ve watched them loads of times. There are some films which can stand repeated viewing almost ad infinitum.

Just finished Chernoby.

I feel winded. I didn’t realise it until they finished but I just sat and stared at the screen while the credits rolled.

Same, overall. Though the last ep being more aftermathy is understandably less graphically horrific and tense than the earlier ones.

Absolutely tremendous though. The control room scene cut with the court testimony was gripping.

Jared Harris is some actor huh?

Deservedly at the top of the list of best TV series in IMDb.

  • SPOILER: Mouse over to reveal
    • Learning of the ultimate fate of Legasov and the three power plant bosses was pretty sobering, as well as those who watched from the bridge and all the other workers whose lives were shortened or ended by the work they did on the clean up. I remember the event of Chernobyl, although I was only ten, but of course all the follow up was under the normal news management of the USSR at the time.

No doubt I am well behind but have thoroughly enjoyed After Life & Ozarks this week.
I also rated BLL and KE, I wonder when we will get S2 of each over here ?

Good Omens on Amazon Prime

Based on the Terry Pratchett book I haven’t read it follows a demon (David Tennant) and an angel (Michael Sheen) bungling through the arrival of the antichrist and subsequent apocalypse.

Reminds me of the old Hitchhiker’s Guide TV series which is A Good Thing. I’m about 3-4 episodes in and it’s very enjoyable.
