Are you watching X Factor this year?

Some things cultured but mostly films and telly stuff.

Are you watching X Factor this year?

Post by Damien Thorn @ Mon Sep 02, 2013 1:37 pm

I am. I already felt sorry last night for the 16 yo girl who sang amazingly but was so steeped in street culture that she felt the need to image herself like a pornstar. Then I read this morning that she naively boasted about drug use on Twitter a few months ago, so is steepeder than she even looked. Something something prison officer woman something something Alejandro etc. Anyway, there goes my weekend telly til Christmas.

e: drugs scandal already

Won't be watching it again this year. I watched it prolly 4 years ago(?) so feel I've been there and done that in terms of experiencing the full X Factor experience.

Anyway I always watch the auditions because I like to see young people have their dreams dashed and cry a lot.
Once the competent people are all selected I stop watching it because it is shit.

Horrible the way this shit sucks you in.

I watched that prison woman and thought "wow she's an amazing singer" and you forget that there is more to music than just a good voice, and that most of the music I like is sung by rubbishy singers.

Think of all the ace music you like. Would any of the singers have got anywhere in XFactor. Of course not.

I sometimes wonder that.

I wish they would do a "secret shopper" and have the bloke who, dunno, did the Milli Vanilli stuff. When they reject him he can say "Wrong! Millions sold globally, actually!!!"

Or if Adele was an unknown. "Sorry love, you've got a nice voice but we're looking for the whole package". It doesn't really matter anyway though, because it's not about finding a legitimate music artist we might like to consume. It's about demeaning desperate people on primetime telly and having Gary Barlow obliterate their self esteem and gnaw on the bones of their very dreams.

Which is why we watch it.

That BBC thing with Lamar on flopped because they only did the end bit where they were all mediocre. Without the dreadful auditions and crushing of souls it's pointless.

It's true though.
We have this bizarre thing going on in our house which involves my wife and the two daughters on the verge of sympathetic tears for this poor dream-dashed gsce-shy dead-kittened girl with me laughing uncontrollably like a drain and them all tearing into me for being so mean

I've never seen any of the shows but I was made to watch the final of Britain Has Talent and laughed my cock off when the spazboy comedian didn't win.

And laughed even more when he got angry about it.

I guess I was lucky to be there at the right moment and not have to sit through weeks of cvnts.

Exactly as per, its the shitest show on earth once people who can actually sing get involved. Until then it is fantastic television. They should widen the net, let more idiots and mentally unstable types in and just have the first few rounds of judging then give it up and go to the pub - they could call it "Mong-Song for Europe" or something.

Additionally I like the people that can hold a tune like I can hold a well greased otter, and yet are in complete denial. Their resulting spouty tirades against the judges who have *wronged* them and ruined their chance at international stardom a failed top 200 single and an advertising deal with Greggs, make for truly excellent viewing.

I got well manipulated by X Factor this weekend. When the shrill fairy folk primcess girl turned up with her dad "he's my roadie and my best friend!" I convulsed on the sofa suffering huge pangs of father / daughter totes emosh as I watched the confused mixture of feelings flit across the dad's face, and I flashed forward fifteen years to the idea of my daughter doing something like that to make me proud, instead of being a proper tiny little mary like she often is now. Also, I instantly liked and was totally furious at the yodeling boy for being good and also totally unable to be anything other than a one-gimick gimick.

Haha exactly the same.

That said, I'm looking forward to when he has to do Disco week or Elton John week and try to shoehorn in the yodel.

Oh, also, re: yodel boy - in my old age it stuck me how weirdly inappropriate it was for Shirtzo to get all saucy over him. Yodelling Barclay was 17 iirc, and she pronounced him so "hot" that she started stripping off her clothes during his audition and doing all kinds of gyrating behind the desk. She's what? 35?

Imagine if the situation were flipped and some pretty little 17yo girl in short shorts did an audition, and Gary Barlow said in his slow Northern voice that she was so "secks-seh!" and started undoing his trousers or something. I don't know.

I thought the same. And I'm not even as old as you.

Similarly, this kind of thing is funny

But if you reverse the situation and put 5 scantily clad men kissing a 7yr old girl it would be technically harmless but at the same time all a bit WD.

Well, auditions done with. Bootcamp coming this weekend. At this point I am going to predict that this girl does really well. Chrissie Rhodes. I thought she was brilliant.

She was/is too pretty.

X-Factor is voted for by girls and girls don't vote for pretty girls.

It'll be a boy winner again this year.

Oh in that case, keep your eye on the rockin' builder who didn't get to judges houses last year. He's got a son, you know.

You are both correct yet oddly it didn't even cross my mind. As she was doing it my only thought was "God, I want to fcuk your arse" (Not god's arse, obviously because I think he's probably a bloke)

I also thought that. She looked very hot stripping and wiggling and stuff.

The yodel almost put me off my stroke.

I had the same dilemma this actual weekend, when she was all unnecessary over another young schoolboy, claiming his voice was like hot butter on her skin and poking her chest out around the room.

I watched this again this weekend, of course - even though I'm already bored because it's the live shows. It was all so unexciting that I found myself browsing wikipeedia on my phone to see if I Could find out why Kingsland had changed their name to Kingsland Road. So imagine my surprise when I happened upon the wiki entry for one of Sharon's over 25s -

Laugh

If Tamera doesn't win the show is a farce. And the show is a farce so she probably won't. Teenage girls vote and I can see girls not liking her. I think she's wellfit and I hate being reminded that she's 16 because that's wellpeedo.

I've realised I really, really despise Sharon Osbourne. She's never been someone I've liked but she's crossed well and truly into my hate list. And her overs are fcuking awful.

Tamera's hugely unlikeable isn't she. I almost hope that no one wins it this year. Somehow an interesting bunch of possibles that mooched through boot camp to judges' houses have ended up whittled down to a dreary roster of dulls. I think I least dislike Kingsland Road, or that crying girl who instantly loses her voice all the time.
