CTF Desert Island Discs

Post by Freddie @ Thu Aug 17, 2017 9:53 pm

Considering all the shit going down across the herring pond the safest place may soon be a desert island. So without shame or acknowledgement of R4's DID what are your eight favourite tracks, what book, what single track and what luxury item would you like?

Go.

8 tracks:
Amazing Grace - Royal Scots Dragoon Guards
Sound of Silence - Disturbed
Dangerous - Within Temptation
Dark Chest of Wonders - Nightwish
Wind of Change - Scorpions & Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
For Crying Out Loud - Meatloaf
Hard as Iron - Judas Priest
Too Much Too Young - Little Angels

Single track from those, probably Wind of Change.

Book - Penguins Stopped Play by Harry Thompson

Luxury item: One of those garden swing seats with a canopy, big enough to sleep on.

Hmmm 8 tracks.....in no particular order

1. Uncertain Smile - The the
2. Lover you should've come over - Jeff Buckley
3. One - U2
4. Karma Police - Radiohead
5. The Boy with the Thorn in his side - The Smiths
6. Sweet Thing - Van Morrison
7. Unfinished Sympathy - Massive Attack
8. Purple Rain - Prince

That list could be interchangeable for many other tracks....I look at One for instance and think, right now I prefer hearing Ultraviolet (light my way) due to lack of airtime, and Karma Police could be The Tourist or The Bends, depending on my mood!

Book? A long one....maybe Dune, long and complex.

Luxury item - I don't really do these....I guess my iPhone would be handy!

Single track - so hard....right now I love listening to Nothing's gonna hurt you baby by Cigarettes after sex (it's a band!) but any one single track, maybe Hallelujah sung by Jeff Buckley.

They are clear on the radio show, no means to communicate with the outside world, plus you couldn't store extra books on it.

Music, not necessarily because they are my favourites, but because there is some variety and they make me smile
James Brown- I feel Good
Eminem - Lose yourself
Queen - Hammer to fall
Clash - London's calling
Prokofiev - Dance of the Knights
Teardrop explodes - Reward
Interferon- Get out of London
Pulp- Common people

Luxury item- Beer cooler

Book. the most difficult choice of all- I'm tempted by the idea of some huge opus that would keep me occupied, but I think i'll go for Douglas Adams- Collected Hitchhikers' Guide... because that makes me smile too

What is the point of imagining what you would choose for the event of being stranded on a desert island, if you can arrange your own rescue?

Surely the whole thing is pointless unless your luxury item is something to play the music on...

It's a deserted island - don't live by others rules, make your own rules!

Recently bought this for my 2 year old lad and its already dog-eared. I thought I might be the only one who knew about it after owning a copy when I was young!
