Even worse, it was a literally brand new Kawasaki ER6N.

Well, it was the Mod 1 re-test today and I literally haven't been on a bike at all since the day I failed the last time, exactly three weeks ago. Not out of spite or anything, simply because I haven't got a bike and today was the earliest date they could fit me in.

Anyway:

  • SPOILER: Mouse over to reveal
    • Smashed it. Absolutely pissed the whole thing.

No minor faults at all. And for the two manoeuvres where your speed is measured (emergency stop and emergency avoidance) you are supposed to be doing 50 - 52 km/h: I was clocked at exactly 50 for the first one and 52 for the second. Boom!

So this morning I've booked the Mod 2 test. Monday 17th, which is the soonest they could do. Wish me luck.

Well done Damo.

You'll be one of the ton-up boys caning it round the North Circular before heading down to Brighton to fcuk up ID on his scooter in no time.

Hello! No Frik, I haven't bought anything yet. Won't until the New Year, but hope too while it's still Winter and horrible and nobody wants their motorbike any more.

I had my final (*hopes*) bike training day today, before the Mod 2 test on Monday. Remember how I took my cbt in the pissing rain and the instructor said "if you can ride in this, you can ride in anything"? Well today I was riding and it bloody snowed on me. Snowed. I've never been so cold in my actual life. Two degrees in snow trying to "make progress" on the DC at 70mph on a naked bike wearing three-season gloves is, frankly, horrible for your fingers. Everything else was pretty comfortable, but my fingertips gave up the ghost early doors and I had to warm them up against the engine block when we stopped for a debrief partway.

I also discovered quite how easy it is to make a motorbike go very fast, when I got held up at a roundabout prior to joining the dual carriageway and had to catch up with the instructor and my fellow pupil. Laugh!

All that said, I really enjoyed today again. Riding is feeling more and more confident each time, and that weird thing is happening that comes when you get plenty of practice at anything complicated; all the stuff that previously seemed impossible to cram into the fleeting time available, now seems easy to fit in. There seems plenty of time somehow, for mirrors, indicators, lifesavers, cancelling indicators - all those fiddly things that were previously tricky to manage, now seem like child's play. Maybe I'm getting the hang of it?

Deets you bloody poof! I was in Italy at the start of December riding around on my Vespa in zero temp with just a parka, jeans and a pair of leather gloves. Warm as toast!

Speed makes all the difference to temperature and comfort.

Good luck for Monday Dath.

Laugh.

In my defence I did manage to get it up to 105kph

Gah! Failed on a serious fault. Too close behind the car ahead when I did an overtake on the dual carriageway. Balls!

Now I have to see how soon I can book another one.

There were a couple of minors, but they're nothing. The following distance was the biggie.

I know. The correct gap seems impossibly massive and I was thinking about being seen to "make progress".

Bummer. Sorry to hear.

On the upside, you’ll probably never be too close again which can only be a good thing.
