What bike?

Two wheels good.

What bike?

Post by Turntable @ Thu May 03, 2018 5:42 pm

My bike got stolen overnight unfortunately.
Massively frustrating as only 10 days ago I spent £800 on mots, service, sprockets etc.
I’d have been delighted if it was stolen two weeks ago as I knew these bills were looming!!

Anyway I need a new bike. I don’t want a sports bike and I don’t need the power of one.
Ideally something light, manoevable nippy and cool.
Or a cafe racer
Or a triumph bonneville

Help

Oh budget 4-5k

My entire criteria was NOT a sportsbike you silly billy.
Anyway, from my drive overnight. Presumably threw it in a van. I didn’t even notice this morning when I went to work even though I have to drive around it!

Yes, well remembered.
That triumph fits the bill perfectly and I should love it, but for reasons I can’t explain it does nothing for me

It really makes me furious when people feel that it's okay to come on your property to steal your things - somehow much worse than if it had been stolen from a car park.

Excellent suggestions. I love that bmw soooo much.
The problem I have is that I use them daily and parked at the station in all weathers so they get pretty abused so it’s got to be reasonably new and not Italian unfortunately

Shame about the blade. I fear you need a garage for anything particularly fancy or it’ll rot/get stolen.
What about a 250dirtbike type thing.

IIRC you are a commuter, station, occasional blast type of rider/owner ?

Now here is where I sound repetitive and boring, but it is my advice to everyone that doesn't want/need 500hp and doesn't ride more than 1.5 hrs at a time.

SUPERMOTARD
SUPERMOTO

Not a bigger Hyper type one either, although my Hypermotard was good it was nowhere near as much fun as the Husky SM610 it replaced. If I had known Mrs NNK was going to move to my city so my 2 hr ride was being cancelled I would never have changed.

Anyway , my picks
Husky FS701 followed by KTM SMC R

I gather there is a comfort seat available for either that follows the lines of the original but gives you an extra 30 mins of feelings in your balls.

I promise this will be the last time I recommend a motard but I urge all of you to try/have one at some time in your riding life.

At the risk of parroting the mx5 of motorcycles, take a look at Triumph Street Triple. Light, nimble, fast but with a comfortable upright riding position.

I’m on my second and rate them highly...

Yamaha MT07

All the reviewers love it, 6ish grand new. Great engine, great value.

Absolutely love the bigger versions of that, like the MT10, but I think those smaller ones just look too shit. I cant afford the bigger one, and I don't like the smaller one. You are right that it is perfect for my needs though.

THe Husq/KTM I covert...but... the two you mention are over budget and I cant really excuse spending more because I just don't use them enough and I knacker bikes.
The second problem is, I cant help feeling that anything other than mainstream german or Japanese will just fcuk up being left in the rain all the time. Every KTM for sale ever seems to be a garage queen. Not sure. Id like someone to tell me I am wrong.

I love that for obvious reasons.

For less obvious reasons, so much so that I don't know them myself, I also love that. It's awful and amazing at the same time.

I was going to suggest the 650 motard version. Not quite as light as husky/ktm but must be v reliable.

Do adults ride those bikes? To me they’re uninsured council racers ridden in grey trackies with the helmet hooked over an elbow.

That's sort of what I was thinking too tkf. Whenever I hear a big single revving hard I look around expecting to see some prat in a tracksuit going through a red traffic light on the back wheel sans numberplate.
