Between those 3, in order i would pick:
1. Daytona
2.CBR
3.CB650
not much in it though between the second 2.

As someone who doesn't ride at all and therefore knows nothing, can I ask why you're looking at sports bikes? If I were ever to going to get on two wheels I'd want something more 'classic' like a Triumph Bonneville. When I look at sports bikes I just see a tool for 'speed' and nothing else.

No, it's a 65 plate. In spite of N insisting that I will get instantly bored of anything that isn't a sports bike, I have a good feeling.

I drive a Honda Civic for goodness sake.

Ride it for a year then if you feel like you’re ready to step up a notch then you can do so. Who knows, maybe you’ll discover that you want to go in a completely different direction and get a cruiser or something.

At least a Honda should be reliable and easy to live with.

Oh.
Well, I'm unable to hide my colossal disappointment with the lack of a Trumpet here...
But it's probably the right choice in fact <sigh>

So all good then! :D

It's a phenomenally beautiful afternoon today, and I have been out on the bike to get some petrol. When I picked it up on Friday it had one block left on the fuel gauge, so I've just brimmed it and it cost £12. Ridiculous. Apparently that £12 will be good for something like 200 miles!

The previous owner had fitted a full set of luggage (did I already mention that?) which is handy to have for future use, but I need to read the instructions to suss out how to take that off. There's a little wind deflector screen too, which makes the battering from the wind much less noticeable than the nakeds I learned on; handy. Snazzy anodised levers too, but sadly red when my choice would be orange. I forsee that minor change happening sooner rather than later, as well as some minor wrapwork to bin Honda's own dinky little red highlights.

Other than that, everything is pretty much spot on, although clearly waaaay less exciting than a Daytona. I'll edit in a photo in a second, hang on...

Looks good, isn't it useful having one pannier for storing your helmet in when it's parked?

Oh probably. The top box is actually big enough to accommodate two helmets. And the two panniers are also massive. There's more luggage space than I've got in my Civic, probably.

Looking good!

"Snazzy anodised levers..."

Don't be tempted to buy cheap ones.

[e] Having panniers that you can throw gear in is a god send frankly.

What's cheap for levers? I've checked, and the ones I've got fitted are eighty quid. They seem really nice - adjustable, solid and good feel.

Not sure to be honest. But I'd assume 80 quid is fine...it's the chinky copies you need to be wary of I believe...although not always easy to tell, apart from by price.

I rode in to work this morning. It was a hoot. The bike is easily quick enough for everything I need at the moment. Easily.

Ooh, and tonight I rode home in the dark. Which is the very first time I've ridden in the dark. That sounds mildly pathetic, but there you go, I've done it now.

I had to battle home in the dark (and the rain) on horrible congested DC, which also presented me with my first filtering opportunity. So now that's another thing ticked off. And more straightforward than is imagined it might be, with actually loads of room to progress along between lanes of traffic.

This riding business gets easier all the time.

Nice opener into bike commuting. I often see bikes filtering in the dark and wet and wince. Please stay alive thanks.

I intend to.

My cojones are atrophied with age and inactivity almost to the point of non existence.

My filtering was confined to stationary or walking-pace traffic, and even then I had to stop periodically because I didn't like the look of the smaller gaps next to artics.

Hmm. There is a massive downside to motorcycling, it seems.

On a day like today, where I had to go to work in the car, for a reason, on the way home stuck in the traffic I was absolutely fuming. Sitting stationary, looking at the yawning chasm down the middle of the two lanes of cars and vans. Suddenly, sitting there with the rest of the drivers felt like a monumental waste of my time.
