Sonos - particularly soundbar

Post by NNK @ Sat Apr 08, 2017 8:35 pm

Ms NNK has arrived with a Sonos speaker (she got to keep one of 7 from her ex), I pretty wowed by it and will be adding throughout the house.
The soundbar is bloody expensive but as it will work with all the others seems a sensible option.
Anyone have any experience of one, or Sonos in general just before I blow my wad.

They seem pretty brilliant things and I'm thinking about buying a 5 for the dining room/ garden.

There was a pretty hefty price hike in Feb from what I understand, annoyingly.

The new Playbase thing apparently produces a better sound than the sound bar, but it'd depend on mounting as to which is more suitable. In all I think the Sonos stuff is ace, it might not be the greatest sound ever but it's so damned convenient.

Yep, as per KM, reviews of the soundbase for your tv have all been very positive, both as a sound system for your tv and as a stereo etc. Of course, the extra fun to be had with Sonos is when you're visiting friends (and you're previously authorised to be on their wifi) - you can log into their Sonos before you actually knock on their door, and announce yourself proudly by playing something on their system. Imagine their surprise!

Especially if it's set up to let you stream tunes from *your* phone.

In simplegingerterms, we have three Wifi zones, one of which is pure internet and nothing else, which guests / "friends" have access to. A second has access to Internet plus Sonos / AppleTVs but nothing beyond and is hidden, and a third hidden one which can access everything for me and her. They're all on separate subnets of the main network. An area locked off from all others is referred to as a DMZ.

Brilliant. The most paranoid wif setup I've ever heard of. Concerned the groundskeeper is streaming Netflix?

Anyway, most norms have one or maybe two that i know of, and the second is only range extended. So, we'll excuse you from my comments about hijacking friends Sonos, as they were really only directed at people who aren't convinced the world is out to get them.

You're the one with a domestic guest wifi outside the "DMZ" to prevent your "friends" accessing your Sonos!

Do you insist the wife calls you Mr Bond and refer to your home as GCHQ?

Right, I'm no audiophile but it sounds bloody good to me. Very easy to setup, using/adjusting seems a doddle too.
Playbar on its own is far superior to std tv speakers but I suppose that was obviously going to be the case.
I only got the sub as it was part of a package and having the cc vouchers made it all work, pleased I did now.

I don't have anything to compare it with as I've never had such a setup before but v happy. I suggest you all buy one now to make me even happier.

I know I'm well behind the electronic times that you all live in but this system is great.
Rolling over in bed and filling the house with dance music at 7am is brilliant.
Especially as Ms Nnk has her 80+ mother staying here this week and both of our daughters stayed last night.
