Galaxy S6. Works when plugged into charger.

Post by Baby Huey @ Mon Jul 30, 2018 10:13 pm

As per the title my Samsung will only work when plugged in and charging. Phone is about a year old and research shows it’s either a duff battery or a fault that can be reset. Have tried this but no joy. Any ideas?

Cheers!

buy a new battery off ebay, have you done a full factory reset?
Step 1: Turn off your device.
Step 2: Hold the volume up, home, and power buttons down simultaneously. ...
Step 3: After a few moments, you'll have access to your phone's boot menu. ...
Step 4: Scroll down to Yes, delete all user data, and press the power button once again.

Cheers Deev, tried a reset but it wasn’t the same as that. Volume down button plus power for a few seconds I think.

Will give that a try, thanks.

I think what you did was a soft reset, what Deev is suggesting is a factory reset. Back-up anything you don't want to lose.

Replacing the battery is probably what you'll end up doing. I did it myself in a few phones over the years. Buy the right tools and take your time and it's not that bad. Either that or take it to an approved Tesla service centre.

At a year old, Samsung might be obliged to fix it for you.

It is highly unlikely that Samsung will do that.

I agree but he says "around a year old", a battery shouldn't die after a year. If it's less than a year it'll likely be in warranty.

Unless it's been exposed to any degree of humidity. I had a fairly new Samsung when I was working in Belgium that was still under warranty and started locking up. I took it to the local Samsung place and when he had the back off he pointed to a small round sticker that was pale red, he said it was a humidity tell-tale that changing colour when exposed to moisture over a certain %rh. He said mine was a flag at pink, but if it was red they would refuse to do any warranty work on the basis the phone has been exposed to excessive moisture.

From my dealings with Samsung, the warranty period is entirely irrelevant -they'll find some way out of it.

That sounds like a significant drawback for a mobile phone.

Tried the factory reset, still no joy. New battery time I guess. Had loads of Samsung phones over the years and have generally been very reliable.

I've only ever seen 4 Samsung phones so far this year so you might find parts hard to come by.

They replaced my old s2 screen FOC when it was about a year old and it went iffy, I'm pretty sure it was because I'd dropped it as well. Is the s6 the one with the sealed battery? I swappped by s5 battery last year, the phone is about 4 years old now but it's designed to be replaceable.

As someone on the radio said a few days ago, Apple Watches failed because who wants a watch you have take off and charge up overnight.

Big laugh.
