Intelligent document scanning software

Post by Tokyo Sexwale @ Thu Aug 16, 2012 10:11 am

Long shot but worth a quick ask...

Can anyone recommend the above?

Ideally I'd like it to use OCR to identify a number on the document and then save the document with that number as a filename. I have no idea on where to begin finding that sort of thing myself so am reliant on ideas from others.

Any suggestions would be great, ta.

We used Abby FineReader years ago. Seemed to do OCR quite well then. Not sure if it will automate a file name though.

Here's the link for a trial

Use a document management system.

These scan, save the document, OCR it and then allow you to free text search all your documents.

I used Docuware. It was good and reasonably priced for what it does.

will it save the document as a filename determined by the OCR? This is crucial.

I think it can. It can self populate a database with dates, names, invoice numbers and other stuff from your scanned documents if you set it up to do this.

Thanks GA - will consider this but ultimately a document management system is a bit of a hammer to crack a nut for this task so costs might dictate that a near human is a better bet.

It's cheaper than a near human. Unless you happen to have a near human kicking around in the stationary cupboard.

I've got the near human, I'm just wondering about re-allocating some of it's usage.

As a non-expert in this area, your request had intern/junior written all over it for me.

Hello there,
I also use document management service system, because from this system we will be able to access our files from anywhere in the galaxy.
Thanks

I don't think I'd like to access documents from Uranus.

Don't they use something like this for scanning PCRs ? Ours is outsourced but I can ask about it when I'm back in the office tomorrow if you want.

If by documents you mean your vagina and by scanned you mean destroyed by a penis I think Rod might be your man.
