Group video chat software/apps

Post by thekungfury @ Tue Oct 04, 2016 8:58 pm

I need to organise a group video chat with 4 people. There will be a mix of iPhones, MacBooks and PC's and we all need to easily chat. 1 or 2 aren't very tech savvy.

Best software? Skype?

I don't think it works cross platform.

We tried hangouts last year for the same thing and it was a monumentally annoying fcuk up. Mix of video, audio only and text chat.

Personally speaking, I would steer clear of anything Googlish for work purposes. Google have a terrible track record of just losing interest in and shutting down things that aren't (a) search (b) gmail (c) maps.

It'd be really shit to get everyone (including that one bloke who's critical to the process but is absolutely horrific at using technology) settled on something only to get the email that goes like this:

We have just announced on the Official Google Blog that we will soon retire GOOGLE THING YOU'RE USING. We know GOOGLE THING YOU'RE USING has a devoted following who will be very sad to see it go. We're sad too.

There are two simple reasons for this: usage of GOOGLE THING YOU'RE USING has declined, and as a company we're pouring all of our energy into fewer products. We think that kind of focus will make for a better user experience.

Thank you again for using GOOGLE THING YOU'RE USING as your THING YOU'RE DOING platform.

Have you thought about all meeting up somewhere? Like in the olden days. With knights, and maidens, and suchlike?

Verily.

Most of us are but we've got people spread over various countries.

Me too. It's just a one off though and not for business.

I'm disappointed so-called technology hasn't brought us domestic holographic units yet. It's 2016 and I've got no robotic butler or hoverboard. Wankers, frankly.
