Headphones

Post by stuart @ Fri Dec 07, 2018 12:11 pm

Currently I use Bose QCsomethingorother on ear-headphones.

I love the noise cancelling and to my ears the soud quality is good.

Recently though its cackling when the headphone jack in the phone moves, and sometimes stops the music playing altogether. I think I probably need to move to wireless. They also aren't that comfy to wear all day at work.

Questions / Wants

1) Is wireless headphones sounding good nowadays?
2) What brand?
3) Want good sound and also BOSE equivalent noise cancelling.
4) Lets put max price at £350 - £400
5) Have to be on ear
6) Reliable.
7) Comfortable to wear all day at work.
8) Good battery life.

Why not buy some Bose wireless cancelling ones if you know you like the wired ones?

Is wireless sound quality on par with wired nowadays?

I've got some lovely Sennheiser ones that can be either - to my uneducated ears they sound the same.

Yes, and the Bose wireless ones come with a cable anyway if you’re that bothered about it.

I have the wireless Bose QC and they’re great but I believe the Sonys are supposed to be the best at the moment WH1000XM3.

Actually, the XM2s are the ones that get all the adulation...I assume the XM3s are a recent update.

I also have the bose ones and they are indistinguishable from wired ones, and the noise cancelling is superb. No idea about the Sony

Not terribly exciting but you could just buy a new cable for your current ones.

Arguably, the Sony’s do sound a bit better but the noise cancelling on the Bose is superior...

.... I bought the Bose.

I think it might be the socket on the phone.

Trying headphones in other devices they seem fine.

Probably get the wireless Bose then, find a shop where I can try them first.

Also, the single best thing about the bose is they charge to full within about 13 seconds and last for about 6 months on that charge.
I am blown away by how they have achieved that compared with other chargey-up stuff

Hehe, me neither. I just decided noise cancellation was more important as they’re my travel ones.

For a second I wondered why Richard Ashcroft was reviewing headphones

First rule of hardware: ignore The Verge, and head to The Wirecutter instead.
