Erm. Set temperatures are the temperatures at which the zones will come on. It's a whole lot hotter than those temperatures. So it's not on.

Why do you have a particular proclivity for a bog that's a sauna?

Assuming you took that photograph during the day, the temperature may drop in the early hours so the heating would come on then to make it nice and warm for the morning.

That was the temp at the time I posted. This is the temp at 8am.

It's this amazing new stuff called insulation. Works wonders.

We don't have insulation. Just 2 foot thick stone walls.

Seems I'm in a minority on the cool bogs. Again

Is your shower bath in there or is that separate?

Mine is too proud to ever be insecure. It stands up for what it believes in. Liberté, égalité, fraternité ......oh, did I mention it is a French Press? About as low tech as you can possibly get, but it does it's job well. Vive la France!

No. He just uses them to maintain the correct temperature and humidity for his wine collection.

Bogs dont have cloth coverings on floors, or curtains over windows, losing a degree or two is easy.

Most houses with CH will surely only have only 1 or 2 thermometers that actually trigger the heating control. The rest of them are there pretending to grant the owner his wish for omniscience, but really they are jeering his more powerful sense of inadequacy. The Hive, perfectly poised to force an upgrade to the next madness- room-specific thermostatic control, even on the basis of an inconsequential 1-2 deg of difference. And even if the khazi were at the same temp as the rest of the house, it would still feel colder because of its cold hard surfaces (if not the floor the the glass, the walls, the pan etc), giving both visual and sensory impressions of coolth.

Hive, surely the perfect name. Served by millions of diligent, mindless workers. Should one worker (lets call him The Bee) doubt its utility, he is even more doomed because the Hive is already in his mind, locking his reasoning out of the boardroom, cosying up to the real boss: his perfectly tailored inner tyrant.

Bee then retreats into appeasing this urge, getting room specific heating because he swears blind that a pneumonia, or frostbitten flesh,is in the offing for him should he spend too long having a crap, fearful that its thermal opposite, Congolese Marsh Malaria that is pandemic in the Snug Room may be worse.

But how can it end there? Sure, the temperature around the sensor in the bathroom is just the air temp. The floor may be heated but what about the sink, the taps, the walls? And how about the part of any room where a window is near? And doesnt any sensor have a 5% tolerance? ..

..

Each of my radiators is fitted with a thermostat but I've never really tested them. They're still set on the number the boiler guy said was best. Cooler in smaller rooms and cooler upstairs because convection.

As for bogs and soft furnishings my solids WC is lined with egg boxes following a neighbourhood petition.

:hehe:

It's UFH barbs, so each zone has its own thermostat. Rads upstairs with trvs and one thermostat for the whole zone though that'll probably change this winter as the second set of UFH goes in. It does at times seem utter overkill but it's nice to be able to heat just the areas we're using and not everythiiiiing all at once. Hive / Nest et al didn't exist when we put this in, and anyway they're limited in the number of zones they can handle.

This was my parents solution - heating would go off at 10pm and not on again until 6am. House was arctic by midnight.

STOP!

Waitaminute.

KM - HeatMISER?

HeatMISER, KM?

Not very wealned now, is it.

No, indeed. It would be more wealned if, for example, you had a Heatspunker, perhaps measuring IN HUNDREDS OF GBP how much warmth was pouring out of yer apertures.

Disappointing, KM.

What next, taking your own carrierbags to Lidl to save 5p?

Someone please minute this, I want it on record.

but consider Rod how the wealned thing now is to spend huge sums of money to minimize your carbon footprint, especially if it involves buying vast expensive machinery to reduce CO2 output by a few grams a year.

I don't get this.

Surely you want to be comfortable in your house.

Why put more clothes on when you can just have the heating set to always be at a comfortable temperature?

Oh, I can do that. It's this amazing invention called a tap. There's one on every radiator so I can turn off the ones I don't want to use. (Assuming I'm using them at all, which I haven't for, er, can't remember because it's a very long time.)

As for hot bogs... well, some people do have cosy bogs. They're like a little cosy nook with mood lighting and thick carpets on the floor and it's all warm and cosy and stuff. Except... it's a bog. It's got a po in there and water things and bog rolls and it's fundamentally just boggy. And it's weird.
