The sensor is larger. like-for-like, a ff sensor will do better than a crop sensor for noise etc. However as you get a "free" 1.6x zoom with a crop body, sports and action photographers sometimes prefer them.

Whether you can use existing lenses depends on the lens and the camera. For example, Canon EF lenses (full frame system) work fine on EF-S (crop) bodies, but vice-versa may be troublesome, as (some?) EF-S lenses intrude further into the body than EF lenses, and may foul the mirror.

I believe Nikon lenses are completely interchangeable.

Regarding the 1.6x zoom, does this mean when I take a photo with a non full frame camera with say a 35 mm lense. I dont get a 35mm photo, it's the equivalent of 55ish?

Yeah, what happens is the image circle on a DX (crop) lens may not completely cover the FF sensor, so you get extra vignetting.

Hence they call those the professional range, they can take far more photos (300k versus 100k) before the shutter is likely to fail.

I paid about £1200 for my D810 on eBay late last year.
The sensor was filthy and needed a clean (£50 ish unless you DIY), but other than that it's been a good buy.

My 6D is ~5 years old and cost me £1700 with a 17-40mm lens. And now the sensor needs a clean, because it's spotty as hell. Also needs a new focusing screen. Mine's dirty and they don't respond well to being cleaned, although this doesn't alter the image quality.

These looked OK on the camera when I took them, however on closer inspection they aren't level and instead of focusing on the bridge as intended I focused on the fcuking tree. And the exposure is too short. God damnit.
