Laugh! We stayed at a Ryokan in Kyoto and they gave us Yukata to wear about the place and I couldn't resist brushing my hair forwards and trying to 'Orient Up' for the evening. I blended in sheamleshly.

I'm not sure. I think they're a bit 'techy' and obvious somehow - like, you have to take them when you're there but they aren't really saying anything beyond "I have a tripod and can do a manual exposure". I do like those sort of photos but they're a bit IKEA print, aren't they?

I like the black and white on best - I did a few more in that style and tried to capture people and more of a flavour of the city and generally prefer them as photos I think. I'm still curating it all as I took loads but will post them up when I'm done if anyone cares.

I like the flowers, they're ace. I took a couple on holiday and one of a Glasgow sunset the other evening, the first 2 are the SLR and Gimp photoshoppery, the sunset is the camera phone and its onboard editting thingy.

"Our" robins are back and feeding their chicks in a corner of the garden. I mucked about with telephotos for a while, then switched to the 50 (75) mm on a tripod a couple of feet away. They don't fly straight back to the nest, but stop on various perches along the way (I guess to see what's going on), so I set it up near one of these and sat about 10 feet away with the IR remote (and a beer and a fag).

Bit of a compromise, as I was piloting my DSLR remotely so I set the focus points in a "centre weighted" way as opposed to a single, central point.

I will try harder next time.

They're rather lovely things. I get them in the garden for a couple of weeks in early spring when the sun's out. They hover, so are reasonably easy to photograph.

Mallorca, they're around the Cap Formentor area in the north. I'd always assumed Mallorca was basically chavsville but it was rather nice up the North and pretty good for a last minute cheapo deal.

I'm rather happy with these from Bruntingthorpe today, all straight out of the camera as I'd have no idea how to edit them even if I had any software.

Yeah, they tried a year and a half ago and got knocked back as it'd "fundamentally change the nature of the area", their development would double the population of the hamlet. They came back with another proposal, much the same but a few minor adjustments and a slight down scaling. To be honest we cant see it from our house anyway and it'll not cause much agro aside from the diggers etc making a mess whilst they build it but it's actually just a really nice field to look at and the folk on the main road will lose that view for one of the backs of the compulsory social housing flats. It's all green belt too which doesn't seem to really matter all that much.

Conveniently one of the folk about to lose potentially their view is the local Tory MSP. It's been referred back to the Scottish Government for approval again, they might get rejected again but they can keep coming back again and again.

I think I can get it a bit sharper when there's less wind, but I'm pretty happy with the new lens.

AFAIK ruining a view is not a valid reason to object to development, but if there's an MSP or some council Neville McGrunty involved, it's amazing how other obscure reasons seem to win out in rejecting the plan.

Needless to say, some really dubious things have happened in city planning departments over the years...
