How did you find your last job?

Post by Kermit @ Fri Nov 28, 2008 12:52 pm

Reading Baker77's thread on covering letters for job applications got me wondering. The last time I actually wrote a covering letter was when I was looking for my first job after graduation. Since then, I've always used specialist recruitment agencies, where initial contact with the agency is over the phone and/or face to face. I have not written a covering letter in 14 years as a result, and I assume people only do so when applying direct to a company.

This got me wondering how people found their last jobs, so I've started this here rather than hijacking the other thread. How did you find your current (or if retired, your last) job?

I was introduced by a existing member of staff. CV was just passed on no covering letter.

starting from mid september this year for about 6 weeks I searched for a job before I got the one I have.
I sent out somewhere between 150-200 CVs.

Not a great time to have a financial services background and F all else

My current job which I have been in nearly 6 years was through a specialized agency. The same agency I have used once before as well, but quite a large number of jobs I have been head hunted for. I am sure I would struggle to write a covering letter, and my CV if the case arose. I have been thinking it's about time I updated my CV just in case...

Applied for the present job as they were advertising in the local paper.

Went for the interview and was offered the job within half an hour of them seeing me :D

I wrote a "gizajob" letter to the HR manager.

They gave me a job.

Job done!

Still here 10 years later.
