My brother used to specialise in getting as much as possible in the bowl at the Pizza Hut buffet as a child. Celery sticks stuck into potato salad then lined with lettuce leaves are great scaffolding for extending the bowl

I had a buffet breakfast yesterday at a small hotel. I remembered how nice it is when people who’ve been there longer than you leave and are replaced with other guests....who aren’t aware of how many times you’ve been up!

Roast beef and Yorkshires sharing a plate with Thai curry? Sure, why not?
Teriyaki salmon with potato dauphinois? Load me up.
Pasta, potatoes and rice? Carb me, bitch!

You create a meal that if you were served it in an actual restaurant you'd be properly fcuking horrified, but when buffeting it's perfectly acceptable somehow.

I'm off on an all inclusive next week and I'll perhaps photo some creations that would have Gordon Ramsay upping his expletive count substantially.

The pantry at my office is akin to a buffet, albeit a shit one. You do see some tremendous efforts though.

This morning, I saw a guy who cannot have been anything other than a programmer walk carefully towards the lifts while holding in his two hands a paper plate piled six inches high with Greek yogurt topped with berry compote, cocoa powder, nuts and with two bread rolls implanted into each side. Effort, dude.

Another colleague used to get a bowl and half fill it with cereal, fill the other half with raisins, then sprinkle coffee powder and chocolate powder over the top.

It's kind of interesting watching people being super picky and precise about how they make their breakfast. You wonder how they arrived at such bizarre combinations of food.

People's lunchtime eating habits can be a window into their soul it is true.

A long time ago when I worked for a big company one person used to eat a tin of pilchards and rice cakes - every single day. Stank

It doesn't take much.

Incidentally, when was the last time you saw some sort of fool on a menu? My Mum used to make a gooseberry fool about 30 years ago, but I don't ever remember having one elsewhere.

My wife made a fool not that long ago, raspberry IIRC.

It wasn't on a menu though.
