Niiiice! Think I've got the majority of it anyway but no harm in grabbing it for free.

I had an album of theirs on cassette years ago that got ruined and was never replaced.

Time to listen again. Thanks.

Snap! I remember borrowing it from this mad guy called Chaka at school (nobody knew his real name).

He stared me a warrior's fearsome smile as I made off with it blaring away in my Walkman, ready to flip it onto my own Sony HF-S Metal tapes that night, with the Pioneer stacker set to normal speed dubbing for extra quality.

Nice tk. I saw them when they were in the UK last year. It was pretty good as it stood, but the band couldn't escape the impression that they had just got together to cash in. Not the worst motive as such- how many people stay in their jobs for pure love alone, 25 years in? But they did have a mini spaz on stage about how everyone waited for them to do MM&I or 3TMN, when all their songs were so great. Which I saw, in a way, as their somewhat conflicted plea to be known as artists first.

De La released a crowd funded album recently. First listen on the way home and there were a couple of skips but some tracks are class. Pain, Royalty Capes (new single), Trainwrecks and Greyhounds stood out. If you like them give it a go.

In the same vein, remember Jurassic 5?

Tunafish- the one with that excellent baritone (prob) rap tone- I didnt know he did things on his own. Ashamed because I remember seeing The Five back at a tiny place called the Honey Club in Edinburgh in 1997 and becoming their biggest fan.

Charlie 2Na did this superheavyweight phatness in 2011, but I only found out about it recently:

Nice find. His rich voice is so addictive and I always looked forward to his verses. Idea for another thread? Great hip-hop voices. Nah, let's do it here.

tbh I'd be happy for Q-Tip to narrate train timetables to me.

See also Mos Def, Guru, Nas (Illmatic era esp.), Method Man, Ladybug Mecca (Digable Planets) and others.

He really is a blinkered little soul. I like a lot of the music he seems to like and still love De La Soul and J5.

Do we have any evidence that minimoog likes any music by black artists?

No, what I call 'happy clappy' hip hop annoys the shit out of me. See also A Tribe Called Quest, Dream warriors, etc. All awful.

NWA and PE etc - sure. But on the whole I'd much rather listen to motown or 70s funk.

So you don't like it when black people are happy. I can't agree with that stance I'm afraid.

It's a lot simpler than that. Musically speaking, I don't like it when anyone is happy.
