You're going to live forever!

We all love to talk about music.

You're going to live forever!

Post by CJ+ @ Mon Oct 24, 2016 1:25 pm

Great news, I'm sure you'll agree. Unfortunately immortality comes as part of a package deal which also involves:

  • Being put into a spaceship and fired into outer space to explore the universe...
  • ...whether you like it or not!
  • There is no MP3 player - just a CD player.
  • There is available storage space to take three albums, of which each could be a double. No box sets or triple discs.
So. Three albums. Until the heat death of the universe. What are you going to take with you?

Springsteen - Born to Run
Daft Punk - Discovery (so I can re-enact scenes from Interstella 5555 to pass the time)

My third choice will rotate given prevailing mood at time of launch but anything from:

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
Frank Sinatra - in the Wee Small Hours
Vangelis - Blade Runner (for when I'm docking with alien space stations and that)
Gaslight Anthem - '59 Sound
FLC - Come Find Yourself

Dunno.

I've got an easy two:

1. The Orb - The Orb's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld
2. New Model Army - Thunder and Consolation

and a tricky third, but I'm going to go with:

3. Godflesh - A World Lit Only By Fire

I was going to say something pre-1990 by Metallica, but after a while I would be unable to forget that Lars Stupid Face Ulrich was drumming, and that would annoy me intensely after the first few quadrillion miles.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon

The Very Best of The Smiths

Nirvana - MTV Unplugged in New York

Master Of Puppets just missed the cut.

Thematically I have adjusted the list to suit interstellar travel

Stevie Wonder- Hotter Than July. To seduce fit-60s-women-omly planets as demonstrated in Star Trek v1.0
Rage Against the Machine. For when Romulins are pissin'off mah phasers.
GZA- Liquid Swords. An active exercise of sound. It would take light years to learn and deliver the rhymes on point.

I'd take Pure, but I've already listened to that for literally hundreds of hours.

Hmmm...

1) Queen: Greatest Hits I
2) Beatles: St Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
3) Prodigy: Fat of the Land

A good bit a variation to see me through the pitiful eons of loneliness.

I bought Pure when I was university, when it came out. In nineteen ninety fcuking two.

Reminds me of a conversation in the pub.

Bloke: "Aren't you a bit old to be wearing a Prodigy hoodie?"

Me: "Experience came out 25 years ago."

Bloke: "Fuuuuuuuuck."

Spitting Image - The Chicken Song
Slade - Merry Christmas
Black Lace - Agadoo

In the scenario in question I'm going to hate them and hate them and hate them and hate them and hate them sooner or later no matter how good they are, so it makes more sense to pick things which are utter dogshit to begin with so as not to spoil something good.

First album I ever bought was Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden, but that's another thread.

I thought you regarded music as one of those pointless, functionless, earthly pleasures (in the same vein as food) only enjoyed by us drones?

I'm guessing it refers to this

I have a similar view to pigeon in that I couldn't choose 3 albums, if I listen to anything too many times I begin to hate it, no matter how much I used to love it.
