Question probably for KM

Post by Clown Ice Skater #4 @ Mon Nov 21, 2016 10:16 pm

KM, if anyone is likely to know this, it's you!

I remember seeing a performance by a metal band on TOTP in the 90s. It was someone like Metallica or Judas Priest, but they were all wearing suits and had short hair. Who was it?

It is bugging the absolute life out of me. I've done some Googling but not turned anything up.

Any ideas?

Lair of the Minotaur, System of a Down, Metallica, Rammstein?

This might be a good place to ask if Cheesy can't help:

I want the answer to this to be The Hives, except they're not a metal band and when they appeared on Top Of The Pops they didn't wear suits. And it was 2002.

It was all of them wearing suits and I am fairly sure it was a five piece band. In my head it's Metallica, but I cannot find any footage or anything so I might be misremembering.

CJ, the Godfathers have the right look but it was a band who were previously about the hair and leather because I was surprised to see them looking so smart! Also, it wasn't a metal band you'd expect to see on TOTP which makes me surmise it was music of the harder variety.

I'm embarrassed to say that I can't get Quo out of my mind. It can't've been them, surely. But...

Not Faith No More?

But I do remember Metallica having a 'smart' phase around the release of Load, and being all suits and hair gel...

Metallica are a four piece.

Sounds like the sort of image Rammstein might have. Maybe Nine Inch Nails?

Def Leppard?

Robert Palmer always wore suits, but not metal and not a band.

Yeah, this is what I remember too - the timing is about right. Possibly Faith No More?

Perhaps some further Googling is required.
